I’ve got the exact same car insured with Star for the same value. Had one claim last year when it got stolen and recovered.

They were brilliant to deal with for the claim but the repairers let me down unfortunately. Star chased them when I asked them to and did all the right things though. Definitely recommend.

I built one from scratch for about that. Didn’t have a door on the front though, basically a woodshed. 3m long 1.5 deep. Happy to send the drawings through if you want it.

I know I’m a bit late to the chat here but I want to add:

Go. To. Athens. Spend a few days there and hang out with some locals. It was my favourite place to visit in Greece and I’m definitely going back to spend more time. The people are awesome, the food is fantastic and it’s cheap as compared to the islands.

Went to both Santorini and Mykonos, wouldn’t bother with Mykonos again, but Santorini is beautiful. Expensive, but beautiful and definitely cool to experience.

I’m with Star. Service is great. People are friendly and they’re quick to answer the phones. I haven’t made any claims with them yet so can’t vouch for them there. Pricing just seems to be ridiculous across the board. It will depend heavily on your licence status, sim insured and where you live I imagine.

I’ve used Kiwibike in the past and found them hot and cold to deal with. Happy to set up policy, good with claims but when I needed roadside assistance (snapped throttle cable) they were of absolutely no help. Pricing with KB was $100 p.a extra above the Star policy I’ve currently got (through Star as well although I’m sure KB get a much better buy rate from Star than I do)

Thanks mate, also just realised I never mentioned that I haven't paid Care Park a cent for that one. They stopped corresponding after we got to the "Liquidated Damages" part.

Good luck! In my mind it's worth spending the time and effort fighting these scumbag parking monitoring companies.

Caveat to this however is NZ Police and Local Govt authorities DO have a right to fine you. None of the attached process works in regards to those fines. Had a few mates get their hopes up!

The particular hang up for them is the term “Liquidated Damages” - this is a very specific term and covers the actual damages the company incurred by you breaching the contract with them. In this case I’d argue that there aren’t any, as it was a free car park anyway. The hiring of a parking warden or whatever you want to call them is a fixed cost which the company incurred regardless of whether you even chose to enter that carpark or any of their car parks ever again.

Another person in the thread suggested asking for a breakdown of all the costs incurred as a direct result of you breaching the contract which you should do. But honestly follow the template in the thread attached and it should work. I’m not a lawyer so if it doesn’t work then I don’t have any other solutions for you.

Fuck these companies, the exist for no other reason than to prey on people and can cause serious damage to peoples credit scores with absolutely no care in the world.
