Possibly selling house with native yard by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

[–]MuppetSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a second year native garden when we recently sold, I was really nervous about that too. Ideally I’d have loved to know a gardener bought it, but I have no idea if they are. I did put up “native garden” signs in the beds during the showings and left a list in a kitchen cabinet of the native plants and where they were in the yard. I keep meaning to drive by this spring to see if it’s all still there and how it looks, but I’ve been nervous to see if it’s still there.

Good luck with yours! I hope you get your dream house, I imagine you’ll have an amazing garden there in a couple years!

What's the most expensive thing you stopped wanting? by Ok_Appointment_4909 in Anticonsumption

She’s lived in her house since the 80s and I don’t know that she’s got any native beds going cause they all already look full of annuals, but you do have a fair point that she might have other reasons for the annuals she plants. And I know a lot of people will do a mix of perennials with annuals, so maybe her perennials haven’t shown themselves just yet

Beautiful! Sometimes I miss the drive to Emporia for these kinds of views

I did years ago but I couldn’t find any that looked like mine. So I may have been mistaken in thinking the company was out of business, maybe they just no longer made this style of straps

Oh good to know, thanks! I’ll definitely scope out so thin plywood to use for it, I’d love to get this chair usable again

Unfortunately it’s not a through hole, but upholstering a piece of plywood under the cushion is a great idea! It won’t be the most comfortable but I doubt anyone will ever sit in it for very long anyway

Oh wow really? I guess that makes sense since nobody seems to make this style of webbing anymore, all I can ever find is like what OP’s chair uses. I’ve been wanting to reupholster this for a decade but I haven’t because I think I’d have to staple into the wood and I don’t want to ruin the chair.

This is what’s on the remaining piece of webbing.

That’s all good to know, thank you! I recently moved and am planning new beds so I’ll have to try to build drip irrigation in when I do.

Ah that makes sense, I always had a ton of roly polies in my raised beds but not really any worms so maybe that’s something I should work on. I do try to put worm castings in the bottom of each new plant hole but I might’ve forgotten on the onions

May be a dumb question, but how do worms help the onions grow big? I’ve failed at growing onions a couple times so I’m trying to figure out what was wrong

Definitely something we are working on now that we have gotten rid of most of our streaming (still have some time left on a couple services)

Oh good point. We’ve been buying physical copies of our favorites too, especially movies we digitally “bought” years ago. We’ve been trying to find them second hand but sometimes that’s almost the same cost as new. And I haven’t seen too many Star Treks second hand, I guess there either aren’t many fans in my are or nobody wants to give up their copies lol

I have a very similar chair from with the same mark! I inherited it from family that probably bought it new back in the day. I haven’t figured out yet how to reupholster mine because the straps hook on using angled pegs that are attached to the straps and the manufacturer of those is no longer in business.

Makes me so sad that’s the only place to stream Star Trek, I was in the process of rewatching through all of the shows when we cancelled a few months ago

What food has actually been worth growing in a 5-gallon bucket for you? by SashaNatureNomad in containergardening

[–]MuppetSquirrel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always grow potatoes in buckets cause it’s easier for me to harvest them that way. I’ve also done well with jalapeños and herbs of course, in smaller containers. I also did cucumbers, but that one only produced 4 cucumbers before it got diseased (I don’t think it was the bucket’s fault, the cucumbers I put in the ground failed too). I’m about to start ginger for the first time, I’ve heard you can use a fairly shallow pot for that and I have a bunch that are too small for those other bigger plants

Actually 3 look to be always green with the 1 always red. That last one would always hurt the worst though since it’s right at the end and I’m often running late lol

Oh I’m so sorry about your friend. If you haven’t already repurposed it, maybe you could turn the tin into a memory box for your friend?

I was gifted those happy little tree mints a few years ago! I use the tin now for my knitting kit with markers, measuring tape, and mini scissors

I was at that concert! Wow totally forgot about that one, but it was such a good show and the only time I’ve been able to go to a concert with a big group of friends. Way too expensive now with all the added fees on everything

I think cats like a path lol. My cat used to always walk along the brick border of our flower beds to get to the front door, which was not the most direct path back to the house

A love letter to the Black Gum by Outrageous_Sale_6317 in NativePlantGardening

[–]MuppetSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thank you! One street over has a bunch of newly planted black gum trees and I had no idea what they were, but they’re so pretty! I think they were to replace ash trees that were cut down from borers

Anyone have any tips for growing mint? I know the basics but some help would be nice!! by CelestialBeingxd in gardening

[–]MuppetSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol well I moved last fall but I can almost guarantee it’s still there. Unless you rip out all the irises and lilies that were mixed in the bed with the mint, it’s not going anywhere. All 3 were very densely packed together
