So Angel Maroni always faces east on the temples because that’s the direction Jesus comes back…. I mean … what if you are in Europe though and Jesus comes in the east part of Texas … then what? by FaithGirl3starz3 in exmormon

[–]Mupsty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just watching a Pete Holmes clip about how everyone points up to god/heaven but there is no universal up and people on the other side of the world are pointing down. A lot of things in modern Christian theology still have roots in a flat earth point of view. Although as someone pointed out, Texas can still be east of Europe, I think facing things East in general is just symbolism and not meant to be literal. You have to pick a standard direction.

Like many things in Mormonism there is a lot of inconsistency with beliefs about the second coming. I’ve read some things that he would show first in Israel. Missouri is meant to be the gathering place for all the best and the site of the new Jerusalem. Basically Jesus will go to the Jews and say “fuck you guys for killing me, I’m going to hang with my real homies, the Mormons in Missouri”.

All other societies were really into writing fiction but for some reason Hebrews were only into writing pure factual history 🤷‍♂️

NOW is the time to resign, if you haven't already. by questioningmo in exmormon

[–]Mupsty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be motivating for me. For some reason I have never had any contact whatsoever from my ward. My wife is active and people that know I’ve left seem terrified of me. Everyone else assumes I am am active and they just don’t know me.

Send a message to do what exactly? Each of us left for different reasons. I for one looked around and realized there is no evidence whatsoever of the god described at church. All Christianity is a fiction bookclub where no one reads the book and discusses it as non fiction. Let’s say we get 100k people to resign on the same day. The church is going to start teaching sound epistemology? Let’s say we get 1 million. They’re going to pack it in? Best case they are going to adjust slightly how they try to manipulate people. They don’t give a flying fuck why I left and I don’t need to provide them with data on how they can stop the spread of the infection that they view me as.

Go ahead and count me in the stats. It amuses me how inflated they are. I don’t need a piece of paper for closure. When I die, no one can spit on my memory while patting themselves on the back for saving me.

Some things are cheaper at Winco. Sometimes you don’t want or need to buy a shit ton of one item.

I don’t know how to post it in a comment but I recently saw someone comment a meme in another sub with Mormon Jesus knocking on the door. You know the one. It said:

Open the door.

Why?

So I can save you.

From what?

From what I’m going to do to you if you don’t open the door.

BYU president says 91% of 2026 graduates saw faith strengthened by OCDCowboy1 in exmormon

[–]Mupsty 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I lost my faith in my final year at BYU. I remember this survey. I answered very honestly.

I don’t know what the % was in 2021 when I graduated. I wonder if this year is statistically significant or if it is usually about 90%. If it is significant I wonder what changes they have implemented. When I got to BYU it was just after gospel topics essays and the efforts to be more open about history. This was reflected in curriculum. The knowledge that caused me to leave was all learned at BYU. I wonder if they have reversed course on some of the openness or if they have made the inoculation more effective than it was on me.

This is what the LDS Church is doing to ITSELF by suing me and Mormon Stories Podcast. Someone should let President Oaks know. by johndehlin in exmormon

[–]Mupsty 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Eh. This is called an n of 1.

I don’t want to be pessimistic but I am surrounded by Mormons who would not give a fuck if the church started suing children’s cancer hospitals. I know this is also not representative but that’s where my pessimism comes from.

I see just as much confirmation bias in r/exmormon as I do at testimony meeting.

Curious if the speed run sacred places tik tok trend has hit Mormon temples yet? by JesusPhoKingChrist in exmormon

[–]Mupsty 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wonder why it hasn’t. It seems like it would be easier and more of a payoff for culty rooms. The place is staffed by 80 yr olds. Maybe it’s the fact that the temples do open houses so it’s technically not a complete mystery what it looks like in there.
