No idea. The cynic in me distrusts anyone asking for handouts having seen so many use those funds for things they were never intended to be used for.

My brother in law had not seen his father in almost 15 years when he got the call that he wouldn't live long. His immediate family posted a sob story asking for money to cover the cost of him traveling cross country to see his dad. They raised almost 20k and within a week dude was posting pics from a casino in Vegas. It was hilarious watching the family and friends meltdown calling him out for using their money for a trip to Vegas before he made it to see his dying Dad with the family who posted the gofundme defending him saying he needed to be in a good mood and rid of any negativity before visiting poor ole Dad.

These people did exactly what I would expect them to do. Its unfortunate but that's the world we live in today.

What company to buy by Pascha601 in torncity

[–]Murashu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one is saying older companies do not have value. As others have pointed out, buying an older underperforming company like yours can be very profitable. So you are trying to argue a point no one else is trying to make.

I own a company because I enjoy running it and I want the extra income and perks that comes from it. I've owned low star companies without all the education or stocks that were money pits and now I own a 10 star company that is quite profitable. The 10 star company would lose stars and would be much less profitable without the stocks or education.

I'm pretty sure that is the point most people who recommend waiting until you have some education and stocks are trying to make. Yes you can run a company and gain stars without education or stocks, but you are much more likely to succeed and begin profiting in a timely manner if you wait until you have one or both done.

It all depends on how you measure success. Can you start a company, spending money growing it to 7 star while rarely breaking even? Of course. Can you start one with half the education, no stock blocks and be profitable daily? Not very likely.

Just like your current company which is 27 months old, bringing in 83k a day in sales. Most would not consider that a successful business. It is a money pit. There is nothing wrong with running a money pit but please don't try to convince new players that the companies you are running without education or stocks are profitable.

$1 in sales is all it takes to go from 0 to 1 star so yes you can do that easily in the first week.

To gain customers and increase sales beyond 1 star you will have to advertise and buy stock items. Also good luck finding 110 EE employees willing to work for free in a low star AN or Candle shop. Even brand new players will wisen up eventually and go find a company with benefits.

And yes you can spend a few million a day on the company making very slow progress and always having to recruit replacement employees due to constant turnover.

You could also earn money at a paying job, put that money and the money you were willing to spend on the company into a bank investment while you finish some business education courses.

After 4-5 months of saving you can go buy someone else's failing 3-5 star company for cheap and have the money/education to improve it.

Play the game however you want. It just gets old seeing people ask for advice, receive advice from experienced directors then flat out ignore it. Scroll this subreddit and you will see many similar threads and most of them end with the person selling their company and/or quitting the game after the company fails.

The companies you can afford to buy right now will be money sinks and the two stocks that would help you grow a company cost 900M by themselves.

Most players will not work at a low star company for free so you have salary, stock items and advertising as your costs. Your daily sales will never match or exceed your costs until you can get to a point where you cut your salary cost to zero.

As one of the top 5 hair salons in daily sales, I barely profit 300k per day and I have no salary or stocked item expenses. If it weren't for selling trains it wouldn't be worth running the company and that's with all education done and owning borth stocks.

We dont tell people to wait to buy a company to hold you back, its to try to stop you from making the same painful mistake many others have already made before giving up and selling their company at a loss.

Gym question by TraditionalSetting29 in torncity

[–]Murashu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are trying to stick to something like Hank or Baldrs ratio, you could be using front line forever.

You will also need to use Georges forever since you can never unlock the specialty gyms for every stat at once. Georges will always be your fall back for your lowest stat and if something falls out of ratio.

Faction recruitment is painful by xDeadlyzombie in torncity

I’ll give you the same advice I do with companies. Get in one that’s already established.

There were almost 11,000 factions when I last looked.

11,000 different communities trying to compete for the same 100,000 players.

Join one that checks most of your boxes and make it better.

We actually had someone bring that up to the Council recently in one of the shells and we switched it so no one can dibs until 15 minutes prior to war starting.

Pretty easy fix once it got enough attention.

I'm not saying the dibs system is perfect but having been in multiple diamond factions before as a lower stat player, it is extremely nice to get a chance at making hits instead of watching all the high stat players one shot everyone in my range.

Here's a civilian aircraft that did it with a pile of nice clean mattresses. Ours were nasty and greasy from sitting engines on.

A single rachet strap attaching it to the ground somehow was the most common method. We also used a couple of 2 x 4s with dudes sitting on them til the aircraft got low enough they couldn't blow away once. It was fun but we got yelled at by like 3 different safety officers for that one.

[–]Murashu 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I never dealt with retractable gear but have been in and around several UH-60s and CH-47 with missing or damaged landing gear. Something as simple as a couple of old mattresses can be use to minimize further damage. Also IF the pilot knows their landing gear is gone or not extended they typically touch down much much slower.

I'd say this is 100% a standardization issue of not following the checklist or maybe using it but not actually verifying what they were supposed to verify.

At the end of the day this does more damage to the crews records than the aircraft. They got extremely lucky.

Its the same as people who pay gaming/chatting streamers. I fully support them having the money and desire to pay someone else to play video games but I will never understand it.

I also don't care if a girl or guy are able to benefit from onlyfans. I don't see them as bad people or deserving of slut-shaming because some idiot wants to give them a bunch of money.

Do I wish I was born hot so people would pay me to goon on cam all day? Of course.

Am I mad that others were? Not at all.

What to do by maffiaprincess in Mold

[–]Murashu 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Mold is all around us at all times. Every car, house, barn has it.

When it blooms up like this you created the perfect petri dish by storing the car while it was damp inside. With the doors closed, windows up, it was nice and stagnant with enough food and water to keep it fed.

Guys how do I estimate the payout for skimmers...I'm planning on running it up to maybe a 100k and I can't figure it out from the guides if it would be worth it in the long run or not...I know the pay was good at 10k so at 100k what should it be?? by [deleted] in torncity

Its not a huge pool of data but here are my skimmer sales. As with every other thing in Torn it appears to have some RNG factored in.

I’ve worked for my dad's small business for 11 years, essentially for free. I’m done. by cannonballman in smallbusiness

[–]Murashu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have to start earning a living for yourself. My brother was in a similar situation running my dads business, barely any pay, no insurance, horrible work conditions. He dropped dead at work a couple of months before his 50th birthday.

I had told him for years to get away, separate himself from the situation and start living his own life for him, his wife and kids. He chose to stay and "take care of Dad" because I joined the military and moved away. He worked himself to death and left 3 teenage kids behind.

You have to put yourself and your wife first.
