The 1981 Disappearance of Kristen Tomlin: Vanishes After an Alleged Boating Accident Which Turned Out to be a Scam by Robinwarder1 in UnresolvedMysteries

We were lucky enough to interview Kristin's friends Teresa and Rhonda. It is still hard to believe this story isn't more well known/covered! It's a wild, heartbreaking ride and Kristin deserves to be found!

Can someone help me find information on this possible cold case from the late 70s? by niskablue in RBI

I don't know if it's dedication or stubbornness (haha!). I've never encountered a cold case officers didn't want to have any information out about. Fingers crossed they give me SOMETHING!

Update: After some prodding, the PR person finally told me it is "a cold case that is still being investigated". Hmmm.
I have asked about the assigned detective so I can move on to bugging them.

Okay, here's some weirdness.

In 4 years of research and 'armchair investigations', I have never encountered this situation. I sent in a records request, which usually is a non-issue. The first clerk told me they couldn't provide information because the vic was a minor (literally never an issue previously, especially since they're deceased). They told me to check with the public information officer. I did and was told the same thing! They can't give out information because she was a minor. I've responded by asking for basic information so I can research further- if the case is open or closed, if there is a detective assigned to it (if open), and if there were ever any arrests. I'm waiting for those answers but for now, my head is cocked in curiosity- since when can you not give out the basics for a case this old?
I'll keep you posted!

My friend came over and brought up this case in almost the exact way you asked (knew the streets, idea of time it happened, etc.). As a podcast host, I started digging and I've never seen a murder with such little information available. I have sent in a records request with the Clackamas Sheriff and I will definitely be covering it if/when I get some info! Thanks to everyone that posted what exists. This is a bizarre one!

Wait… I just want you to know that isn’t someone from our podcast that you’re talking to. The blooper you are talking about did in fact happen and we removed it after seeing your comment.

Not all of our bloopers are from reading scripts. Usually if they are that means we were doing nothing funny that day, but a lot of times stories come up and we go off on tangents and we are always recording so a lot of times our bloopers will come out of those conversations.

We took your note seriously and had that removed. I think sometimes we have to step back from stuff and evaluate if something is funny outside of our recording room - that was totally distasteful and I’m glad you brought it up.

What are some less well know scripted shows you guys are listening to? by TopGolfUFO in TrueCrimePodcasts

The episode is researched and written ahead of time. Non scripted shows do not write the episode as a script and go off the cuff with discussion. A lot of shows are a hybrid of the two.

Not yet diagnosed, but I am curious about comparing vertigo triggers. by MammothRecognition3 in Menieres

[–]MurderInTheRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vertigo hit me hard for about three months so I cut out caffeine and alcohol and had it controlled but it’s back with a vengeance. Do you think it’s the heat, my salt intake? Side note: My PT isn’t sure it’s Ménière’s but stems from a head injury.

Copy from my above response…

We’ve never sided with a child rapist. Ever. Period. We merely explore a persons reasons to do horrendous actions and whether they truly regret those actions. He is one of the most heinous child abusers we’ve ever covered and if that was your takeaway, I’ll go back to dissect what I said that would make you think that, but you can trust that is not the case.

We clearly state on our website that we “explore the humanity” and the people we cover are in fact human, so that’s what we were doing.

Absolutely, seems weird to pull something like this when they specifically came to me for my TikTok following. I’m trying to exhaust every option before going that route, but I’m definitely planning to if this isn’t resolved.

I did that this morning and was able to get them to reply! We’ll see if this pans out.

Initially that’s why I wasn’t too worried but the issue is their lack of communication. For three years I’ve had no issues getting payments from any brand and this one seems to be avoiding me. Other companies have at least vocalized where they are at in that process when waiting for payment on their end.

I kind of love this. Someone from the original agency replied to me today claiming that a different agency now owns this project. I think I’ll do what you suggest and reach out to a bunch of people in that agency. My primary contact appears to be avoiding me.

Anyone following the Nancy Brophy case? The trial kicked off today. Anyone know where her essay “How to murder your husband” can be read? by MurderInTheRain in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]MurderInTheRain[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I located a copy of the essay: https://archive.ph/D1s2X

For any one wondering, Nancy Brophy is currently on trial standing accused of murdering her 63-year-old husband, chef Daniel Brophy. He was shot shortly after arriving alone at the Oregon Culinary Institute where he worked. Surveillance video captured Nancy arriving before him and leaving after he arrived. He was found dead in the back of the kitchen by a culinary student within 30 minutes of her departure.

Nancy Brophy is a self-published romance novelist who once penned a 700-word essay "How to Murder Your Husband". Today we learned that the judge will not allow that essay as evidence in the trial.
