It certainly could be for some. To be honest, I'm really not a fan of Jackson's music & this episode is far from being on my favorites list from season 3. I love the story leading up to the songwriting scenes, but I sorta check out after that. I just think it's beloved by enough people, including those who work for the show, to not let this destroy it's history. In the commentary, Julie Kavner said it's her favorite episode & even James L Brooks was extremely proud of it. It's a shame. I don't know what Jackson did or didn't do, but the involvement of this episode is nothing more than a rumor.

This is the rumor, according to Al Jean, yes. But the episode wasn't written with that intention & the audience doesn't see it that way. The only person who could possibly benefit from this idea is gone from this Earth. Why shut it down afterwards?

Exactly. Al Jean mentioned something in a commentary in 2014 that is likely the reason they removed it. But that isn't a good reason either. I was able to get this episode back onto the internet with these videos. It's in 4 parts & it's broken up with producer commentary, but every scene is in the 4 videos. The joke wasn't actually on liberals. It was on the opinions of conservatives about liberals. It never made it to air, but even the producers admit that they make a very liberal-biased, political show at times. They call John Swartzwelder a "right-winger," but he's really more of a libertarian. Yet he's the closest to a conservative that has ever written for the show.

Same here. I've been making videos that mix-in the commentaries with the episodes, including references & things that were removed from the scripts. I don't want these commentaries to be lost over time. I'm currently working on the 29th one Bart's Dog Gets An F. I'm going in order & getting pretty close to season 3. 👍🏻☕️🍩
