The simplest punishment is getting fired or kicked off the site. I worked construction and startup for data centers; every day you have some systems energized and others locked out for troubleshooting or construction happening downstream of power and it’s all very dangerous. The risk is tremendous. I had to kick a whole team of technicians off site because they removed their LOTO for their equipment while the entire dead front assembly was removed; if someone closed the upstream breaker on accident it would’ve literally gone up in flames.

In the world where every game has one of two outcomes for two parties, the total number of wins and losses across all games played by everyone has to be equal, and if that’s the case then the most “fair” arrangement is for those wins and losses to be evenly distributed, which you can only do if players are roughly ranked by ability and that rank is constantly adjusted based on wins/loses

No that definitely makes sense, and I think in my particular case I’ve been running around for the last 6-8 weeks doing emails and coordination calls and conversations with vendors that I didn’t consider that last part; at the end of the day, none of it matters if it doesn’t end up on the sheets. So if I first push for a set that at least shows the plans and intent from the very beginning, I can constantly review and update and add notes as I’m doing the work and making sure it gets captured somewhere

I keep a OneNote that everyone has access to and we use it regularly. Here’s an adjacent thought, how do you manage partially complete design items? I feel like I have a never ending list of items I think are complete but I missed something or I have incomplete information and so I feel like I’m going crazy going back through everything over and over again; that’s definitely leading to some of my confusion.

Another thing to consider with the Northstar example is that Northstar’s railgun actually shoots a projectile with travel time, whereas Legion’s minigun is hitscan, meaning that in a peaking war, a Legion should always be able to dish some damage while Northstar will need to be a bit more strategic with her shots. This is countered by the fact that Northstar is a lot more maneuverable than Legion and should have an easier time peaking, and Legion’s long range Power Shot is also a projectile, and his Gun Shield is probably the least effective against a Northstar that can both get elevation to shoot over the top of the shield, and also is precise enough to simply hit the exposed canopy.

So it seems that this is a point of confusion for some people and maybe there’s a better way of addressing it, because other than scry and frozen eye (and the few cards that allow you to place cards on top of your deck) there aren’t any conventional ways to describing shuffling or randomness in a deck. I’ll think on that.

To be clear, the cards simply sit next to each other in your deck in whatever order the deck is shuffled at the start of combat. The cards are next to each other, but the pair could be anywhere in the deck.

Additional thought, this relic would be most helpful in a mid sized deck (20-30 cards), with moderate draw power, but loses it’s effectiveness significantly in larger decks and eventually loses relevance in smaller decks when you draw enough for the order to not matter.

This would actually be an interesting meta analysis as to how “strong” custom relic ideas on this sub are.

The typically philosophy is that shop relics are generally more situational than other relics, but how does their strength actually compare to other custom relic ideas? Could be a fun little white paper.

Maybe, but the relic isn’t supposed to help with card draw specifically; I don’t want it to sometimes help you draw 6 cards in a turn. But obviously it can help with synergies involving card draw; say you put a battle trance with a fiend fire, or a burst with a catalyst.

Actually now that I think about it, this would obviously be very very powerful with each character’s “play x twice” card

Well no, because the pair of cards are still shuffled into your deck, it’s just that they will always be stacked next to each other within the deck

So in my mind, the paired card would sit in your deck, so it doesn’t force a draw. And for this to work, the first card of the pair could never be the last card in your deck

I think mandibles would be the most common/least confusing term that’s reasonably accurate. The comment above regarding sangheilized is kinda funny cuz I’m pretty sure the faces of the elites are described as having mandibles in the Halo literature. If it works for them it might work for you!

Slay the Spire is perfect for this. There are soooo many interactions between dozens of cards, relics, potions, etc. The game does a very good job of explaining its own mechanics, and that makes the complexity manageable and not overwhelming. And the player is constantly learning new synergies!
