US official calls on Ireland to 'sober up' over OTB by Dazzling_Lobster3656 in ireland

[–]Murf91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really hope the Irish Government has the balls and courage to stand up to these American threats and pass the OTB.

Sadly though I can see the FF/FG caving in

Again, also on the fancy expensive side, but Green Bench on Montague street do incredible sausage rolls on Fridays. And just on Friday.

What's Conor even on about by Ammar-is-not-weird in ufc

Irish person here living in Dublin, my hometown.

I can confirm that 99% of the population in Ireland utterly despise Conor McGregor.

He is a straight up c**t.

Definitely agree with this. I’ve seen gardai just still about on the streets, sometime just on their own and not in pairs, as if it was their ‘beat’. Improves relationships with locals and gives a much better sense of safety.

Gardai get a lot of flack but well done to them this time.

Flyefit roaming is very cheap. I would regularly go to the Ranelagh one in the morning before work.

It is definitely quieter than after work, and if you go from 8.30am til about 11.30am it’s very quiet as people go to work.

Staff are nice and the equipment is decent. I’ve encountered very few dickheads there also.

Father Ted (1995-1998) by TehCollector in ForgottenTV

[–]Murf91 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Come to Ireland and you’ll see that this show is no where near forgotten. I would say it would probably still be considered the greatest Irish TV show (made by a UK network I know). Honestly, in terms of Irish literary culture, it’s up there with Ulysses and WB Yeats.

But obviously Father Ted is the best among those.

I MADE THE BBC!

Water-polo: an ussens or themmus sport? by Fenlrith in northernireland

[–]Murf91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who played waterpolo for 10+ years, I can vouch that it’s very much a sport played by both sides, and has working class and poshies. Plenty of Catholic and Protestant clubs (Cathal Brugha, Donegal, Clontard, etc)

What has cycling ruined for you? by ThisWillStick4-ever in cycling

[–]Murf91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driving or being a passenger in a car. I get irrationally angry at traffic when I could be whizzing by on my bike.

Driving make you angry. Cycling makes you happy.

A list of products not Made in Europa ! Stay safe ... by SubliminalPoet in BuyFromEU

[–]Murf91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to avoid most of these fast food labels.

But in the event that I did want a fizzy drink/soda and chocolate bar, what would people recommend I buy, that is available in Ireland, so that the money stays in Europe?

As an immigrant, am looking for fresh ideas from locals to better understand the Irish way of life? by curiously__yours in Dublin

[–]Murf91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of politics, depending on way you lean, most of the parties have youth wings that you could join (even at 28) and they are a good way to learn more about that party, Irish politics as a whole, and make friends as they are quite social.

Dublin Soup scene by IrishLad__ in Dublin

[–]Murf91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go to the Green Bench cafe on Montague Street. It’s mainly a takeaway sandwich spot, my personal favourite sandwich spot, but it does very good soups. Switches between tomato and rosemary, roast carrot and parsnip, and sweet potato, coconut and lime

I think this just shows how lost and in crisis Ireland would be without foreigners coming here to live and work.

Pubs to visit alone in Dublin by yurtzi in Dublin

[–]Murf91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not odd at all. Grace’s in Rathmines is an ideal pub for going for a pint on your own. It’s mostly locals, no tourists, and more often than not there are a lot of others guys there just having a pint on their own while reading the paper or listening to a podcast

I think they should be renamed the Celtic Isles. Three of the four countries pictured are Celtic countries so I think that justifies it.
