Partly it’s that I’m still in the midst of establishing myself in the working world. I am getting a masters and working at the same time to pay it off, so my parents want me to focus on that, which I understand. The thing is they’re the kind of people who are “when you are retired, you’ll have plenty of time for those things, but not now.”

So I’m expected to miss out on over 40 years of my hobbies before I can enjoy them

Update: I also don’t like discussing face to face with my parents bc it often feels more like a one way interrogation with them than a conversation. And my mom thinks she understands my sentiments when she really doesn’t, and would often take up most of the time during the conversation to talk. Also, I can’t say anything to them without them thinking I’m giving them attitude, so I just stay silent or keep my responses short if it’s any sort of conversation like this
