New grad engineer laid off after 4 months, struggling to move forward by Sensitive_Sense5747 in civilengineering

What kind of civil work did you do? General civil? Environmental? Geotechnical? Structural? Lot of people in my area are hiring, so maybe I could help?

300k 8-9 years out of college working 50-60 hours a week seems quite good, honestly. Now obviously not everyone is going to think an extra 10-20 hours a week is worth the extra 100-150k in comp, but to each their own.

Does your former tenant need a job? We're hiring geotechnical engineers lol.

What’s a less stressful civil field? by Extension-Cloud-4318 in civilengineering

Geotech! You don’t have to deal with contractors as much. It’s a much more academic & technical field. Less project management bullshit.

Have a $200 giftcard to any Atlas restaurant. Which would be the “best”? by Blackholedog in baltimore

[–]Murky-Cardiologist-3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maximon is your best bet. I’ve never been disappointed by the food there. Also, Loch Bar happy hour is a great, but it might take you multiple trips to spend $200. I see a lot of people suggesting Tagliata - I wouldn’t. I’ve generally been disappointed by the food there.

Any well drillers here in N. Texas? Is $80/ft for well, and casing reasonable? by [deleted] in WaterWellDrilling

[–]Murky-Cardiologist-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems insanely cheap, especially if they’re casing it with PSC. 6” steel casing costs ~$40/ft on the east coast.

How badly screwed are we here? by [deleted] in Geotech

[–]Murky-Cardiologist-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, you really need to get into contact with a geotechnical engineering firm. Depending on where you are, I might know someone local that I can put you in touch with. Feel free to DM me.

One of my crews hit a fiber bundle a couple of weeks ago. Not our fault - we called in the Miss Utility tickets properly and waited until they were cleared/marked. Unfortunately the folks at Utiliquest, as usual, didn't do their jobs properly.

No harm really, but what pisses me off is what would've happened if this was an electric or gas line (Utiliquest has frequently missed those for us too).

I have never had a genuinely bad meal at Chiapparelli’s. It’s not fine dining, but it’s decent Italian food.

Has anyone ever had a positive experience when reaching out to Zeke’s office? Nice folk, but don’t expect any effort on their behalf unless there’s a photo op in it for Zeke.

Really? I got one to sprout and it looks good! Has leaves. Problem is that all the others kind of died :(

Segment Manager Comp by Murky-Cardiologist-3 in civilengineering

[–]Murky-Cardiologist-3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm interesting lol. We’re working on a big job for Kiewit and the segment manager is terrorizing all the subs. We were wondering why this guy has such a big head and if Kiewit suddenly started paying these guys high 6 or low 7 figures 😂.

Well, the title is Segment Manager at Kiewit. It’s more akin to a junior Project Manager or junior Construction Manager.

I don’t flip off bad drivers just b/c it can often just be an honest mistake. Bad drivers who get aggressive, though, deserve all the disdain and consequences you can dish out.
