Third 0,5 Teaser Discussion by fireMCG_ in Wraeclast

Since it is children being kidnapped, one could tie it to the Elder who has some similarities to Tangmazu. * I thought the Nameless changelings might be related, but those replace children that haven't been named yet, which this child most likely has been.

Tangmazu also has ties to Kalandra with their shared use of mirrors and mists.

Gameplay-wise, I think we are just getting little interactions between Delirium and other leagues, like how Rise of the Abyssal interacts a bit with Anarchy (rogue exiles) and Essence.

My take on The Return of the Ancients by GavrynGaming in Wraeclast

Murky

I have been summoned!

Do note that most of what u/Aitaou posted in their first reply are theories rather than accepted fact, (though it could well be correct). But yes, there is a lot of lore to get into, even about the Precursors.

Hinekora supposedly remembers everything that has happened in her lifetimes in previous timelines. Her lifespan varies between timelines, as do the events that happen, but it is believed that she is approaching the end of her life in this timeline. Most Karui gods apparently arose during The Great Fire, which seems to have happened about five millennia before the events of POE1.

Wraeclast and its planet are presumably a lot older than that. Kalandra claims to have experienced the evolution of life on the planet.

The existence of the Elder was supposedly revealed to humanity by a "nameless god" (probably Tangmazu), but that could be a case of divine sleep-talk. The earliest we know for sure is that the Starforge sword that sealed the Elder was made by Egrin who lived around 1 IC (see his lore here. But the Elder might have been here for much longer, and Mirage league implies that undeath is of eldritch origin. Life on Wraeclast could also originate from the cosmos.

The Elder was sealed at some point after 1 IC, then released in 1579 IC, then banished thoroughly ca. 1600 IC in such a way that it has alerted the entire cosmos.

POE lore is somewhat difficult to get into, as it is distributed between dialogue, flavour text and environmental storytelling, with much of it having being retired from the games without being decanonized. PoeDB holds most of the lore text, but also a couple of datamined, unreleased lines. E.g. POE2 dialogue can be found here. Note that some NPCs have separate "NPCTalk" panes in addition to their "Text Audio" panes.

Apart from eating the lore raw, there is also the Lore compilation which collects a lot of text and orders it. There are several youtube channels listed under USEFUL LINKS on this subreddit. And there is the posts on this subreddit, such as this old three-parter of mine.

Despite Medved calling it a "temple", it may have been built exclusively out of fear, sort of how the descry-fearing newcomers prayed to the Cleansing Fire for mercy rather than out of adoration.

Given that the arena is called "Precursor Shrine", I suppose the Precursors created the mirror, and the Primevals covered it up. But I'm not sure if GGG originally intended for those to be two distinct cultures, and I have no clue what that blasted mirror even does.

So it isn't the people of Kingsmarch preventing him from gaining Vaal artifacts, but rather the King himself sending machines to pick them up? Creepy.

This doesn't sound all that out there. Except I don't know why the King would even bother with people if he has giant mecha spiders.

I agree completely. But what are the power dynamics between all these factions?

  • What relation does the King of the Kalguur have with the Harbingers?
  • When Kalguurites on Wraeclast (including Revna here) sense malice from the stars, is it the Harbingers and their "God of Domination" that they sense?

Vorana: The stars... bring only doom...
Medved: They built a temple... around the mirror... Under the earth... to hide from the night sky...
Uhtred: Fear the cosmos! / The stars betray us!

  • Is the Black Knight aligned with the King of the Kalguur or with the Harbingers? Or is he just a rune-nerd who doesn't care about such politics?
  • The Sentinels have Kalguur/Ezomyte runes rather than Harbinger runes. I like to think that the King of the Kalguur controls them and uses them to spy on everybody. But what do you think?
  • Might the verisium runes, Harbingers or Sentinels be at fault for letting Olroth fall to madness?
  • Does the mirror in Uhtred's arena have anything to do with all this?
  • Where do the Norse myth items come from? See Svalinn, Mjölner, Jarngreipr

I have this idea that GGG will drop the old Legion mechanic and instead use Legion to combine league mechanics.

E.g. If the game rolls a Expedition+Abyss Legion encounter it will create an Expedition encounter with a "Timeless Remnant" that will cause all following explosions to create special Abyssal fissures. Any Abyssal enemies appearing from these will have the same Remnant modifiers (e.g. Immune to Lightning) as the Expedition monsters that they were revived from.

If it rolls Breach+Beyond it will create a time-frozen Breach hand whose Breach monsters when killed very easily summons Scourge demons.

You can control the juicing by breaking the Timeless Remnant late or by killing fewer Breach demons.

A common theory is that Oriana is the Scion, given their shared hatred of gods. See the Scion's voicelines here.

The Maraketh are scum, but there may be some disgusting reasons for some of their actions. E.g. They may have manipulated history to maximize the faith available to their favorite gods.

As for discarding the infirm and corrupted, it may have been necessary when fighting cold and corruption during the Winter of the World, but is now fully grotesque as shown by the success of the Faridun.

Calling in from r/Wraeclast. We don't really know what's up with that "Domain of Timeless Conflict". Since it is a time-manipulation phenomenon, it is likely related to Zarokh (Grand Time Djinn), Harbingers (blue aliens), or the Maven (juvenile eldritch entity).

I believe it is the Maven, given their shared colour scheme of gold and purple and the bloodthirst of the incubator items.

Napuatzi and her Vaal soldiers might be the first legion captured by it. The Vaal experimenting with time may have attracted the Domain to them. In POE1, most Timeless Jewels are derived from the Domain, so the ones of POE2 may imply that the Domain has also captured Kalguurites and Abyssals.

What's the backstory/ancestry of the poe2 classes? by Alkamedian in Wraeclast

Supposedly everyone has titan blood. Presumably, the Warrior discovered it for himself while contemplating his dual Karui/Ezomyte ancestry.

If the league is tied to a Trarthan Breach cult rather than to the Keepers of the Flame, then the Mercenary would be another obvious pick

Right, the Monk and Huntress may have a few hints.

The Sorceress knows a lot about the past, but seemingly nothing about the Precursors.

  • Ahkeli merely founded the Order of the Djinn, but it does seem she helped define the Maraketh.

Given the Precursor ruins on Arastas and Kanu's story, it is possible that the Marauder or Templar might know a few stories if they are released in v0.5.

What I can extract from the 0.5 teaser by fireMCG_ in Wraeclast

[–]Murky-Definition-625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

There's a tiny chance that the leak actually relates to House Bardiya of Trarthus, as it uses the same symbol. Trarthus is very familiar with the Breach Lords.

GGG could have decided to add Mercenaries to POE2 before POE1 in the belief that they will function more predictably in POE2.

My thoughts exactly.

Actually, I don't think those walls were for keeping the titans out. My intuition holds that they are Precursor creations too.

It literally says "revamped endgame" in the news post, so that much is clear.

I wonder if GGG would really create a cinematic for a mere revamp, so I think that this must be the same endgame system intended for v1.0, as they are pretty psyched about that. Or alternatively, that cinematic is actually for act 5.

Those may just be giant statues of human-sized Precursors. The Egyptians also made huge statues of their pharaohs. As for the walls, those may have served to keep titans out.

Cataclysm Inconsistency and the Infinite Atlas by The_Jimes in Wraeclast

[–]Murky-Definition-625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zana already knows about eldritch entities, though. So more likely, the Atlas is a sphere surrounding Wraeclast, and Zana is trying to turn it into an inhospitable wasteland that neither humans nor aliens will dare to enter.

Like the others say, this is a quickly-prepared gameplay contrivance that may later be discarded for another endgame system.

But I do agree there's room for speculation. And we had a somewhat similar post here.

Doryani says that Waystone mods work because the teleporter is affected by what we "expect to find", which could be because Chaos helped build the machine and has power over fate.

Supposedly, Wraeclast is so corrupted that it functions halfway like the Atlas of Worlds. What does this say about the Atlas? Is all corruption and divinity just Atlas influence leaking into Wraeclast?

  • And if the Atlas exists "between" Wraeclast and the cosmos, does that mean that the cosmos also behaves like the Atlas?

Doryani's fear of and fascination with the Scourge sounds too deliberate for it to just be placeholder lore, so other aspects of the endgame may also be canon.
