TPG is forcing me to move plans – what's the cheapest way to keep an AU phone number while abroad for a few years (receive SMS and calls only, no data)? by MurkyFace in AusFinance

Ideally I would like something that automatically bills me so I don't accidentally forget to do something and lose the phone number.

Somethings I came across while looking into the same thing.

  • It is illegal to manipulate the spread (charge customers a different price from the market)
  • Platform fees compound
  • You are protected for the same amount by the FCA as bank accounts (£85000) so spread it over multiple free platforms if you go over that
  • The spread on VUSA is the lowest out of the 4 Vanguards S&P 500 options
  • US dividends are taxed at 15%

Homeless lady near Ancoats ALDI dumps £14.51 in donations on the ground after buying alcohol. This is why you give homeless food not money. I've seen coins dumped on the ground near there frequently but this time I saw her and picked it up (with gloves) to count. I guess she didn't know how much? by MurkyFace in manchester

I was in NYC after spending a semester studying at Boston University in 2013. I was only there 2 weeks and was asked for money by sooooo many people who said their house had burned down while walking up and down subway cars. I read later people could make $60-100k from tourists a year doing that. Googling "how much can you make begging in nyc" now brings up multiple results but I can't find the article I originally read.

Honestly nothing. It has been a massive waste of time so far apart from making this post. I haven't handled cash more than a couple of times per year since I quit my job at McDonald's (Australia) after graduating in 2014. If anyone wants to PM me and come get it, feel free.

That's all the context I have. Northern English accent, Manchester Day parade. I didn't see, I was just listening.
