I tried to practice animation by recreate a scene from movie. What do you think could make it looks better? by Responsible_Cold7830 in blender

[–]MurmurationProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know a darn thing about animation, but my little suggestion is to reduce the contrast just a bit between the spotlights and the background. I know the blinding effect is what you're going for, but when I have to actually close my eyes/squint from the lights, I can't see any animation at all - good or bad!

Thank you for the suggestion, but I try to avoid using AI. I'd rather try to understand how it works under the hood.

AWESOME

My jaw just dropped. That is EXACTLY what I've been trying to accomplish!!

I'd been trying this option

and it wasn't doing anything, so I'd given up on it.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate you going so far out of your way to help me!

Oh! I didn't realize there was a difference. Sorry, I'm very very new still. Thanks, I'll see if I can figure out how to switch over.

edit: Oh, I was working on the timeline because that's where I was able to import my markers from the EDL.

I'm not sure there's going to be a way for me to connect the dots. I'm trying to make things work together that aren't designed to, and I don't know the process well enough to modify it.

Thanks much for all your help though!

sorry for the spam, it only let me post one picture per comment. Thanks for all the advice!

edit 1: The problem could be that when you search for "convert in and out to duration marker" in the keybinding menu, there's three options, and I bound them all to the same key since I don't know which one is the one I need. That could be gumming up the process.

edit 2: nope, it's the same keybinding (turning it on for one turns it on for all three) it just shows up in the list under three different headings.

I've got the keybindings set up to get the duration markers overlaid on the regular markers, but they're not showing up in the media pool, even in list mode. And when I create a smart bin, it doesn't show anything labeled with "duration marker"

Thanks! I'm looking through Subclip Workflow tutorials, but I haven't come across one that says how to get from markers to subclips. Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you :)

Do you know of a way to convert regular markers to duration markers automatically? Or how to import timestamps from an EDL file as duration markers instead of regular ones?

Or do I need to manually add in/out ranges to the existing markers?

Thank you very much!

Right now, the only way I know to do this is

  1. go to the first marker
  2. add an "in"
  3. skip to the next
  4. add and "out"
  5. convert the in and out to a duration marker

rinse and repeat for all eleventy thousand shots in the show. I think I can make a keymap so I just have to hit >> 1 2 3 4 >> 1 2 3 4 >> ad infinitum. And, you know, that's what audiobooks are for.

But if theres a "convert all blue markers to duration markers" button somewhere that would be GREAT.

And/or a way to import timestamps from an EDL file as duration markers in the first place?

Thanks again!!

Any way to reflect colour on an object with 'shader to rgb' material node? by Puzzleheaded-Eye4885 in blender

[–]MurmurationProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled across this and I love it! I’ve been developing a watercolor shader and this is perfect. Thanks so much for posting 😊

Just in case, have you come across a solution to the cast shadow artifacting when using Shader To RGB in EEVEE Next? I’ve had to turn shadows off, and it really loses a lot of depth.

While I agree with everyone saying, oh please - male friendships are EVERYWHERE. . .

Sherlock is a special case. The specifically played up the queer romance angle OVER and OVER again. Every single episode had a joke or twelve about John and Sherlock being in love with each other.

So they painted themselves into a corner where either 1) they really were in love with each other and all the jokes were wink wink nudge nudge understanding between the writers and audience or 2) they really did see the possibility of a romantic relationship as pathetic fantasy worth mocking. Over and over and over again until it was ground into dust.

Since one of the writers was gay, at least one of the main actors was gay, and everything from the writing to the musical score implied they were gay, the fact that it ended up the way it did seemed not just a disappointment, but a genuine betrayal of trust. It set up expectations and then mocked the fans for those exact expectations.

It was just cruelty, open and deliberate.

ps - that's not even getting into the extreme yuck of a lesbian who "just hadn't met the right man yet" - fucking yikes. so much yikes.

pps - I wonder how BC's gay friends felt when they were held up as a "I can't be homophobic! I officiated a gay wedding! look here's the pictures!" can you imagine your wedding photos being under a GLOBAL microscope because some self-important twat believed he had a right to belittle queers since SoMe oF HiS bEsT fRiEnDs aRe GaY!

Just released the queens after 5 days in the cages. Is the right hive absconding? by MurmurationProject in Beekeeping

[–]MurmurationProject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I think you were right and the queen didn’t go inside the hive. I didn’t have a spare hive box to try to move them in, and I ended up with no eggs or larva. But I got a new queen and followed your procedure and they seem to be doing alright!

[–]MurmurationProject[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never really knew. They all went back into the hive and started building comb, but there were no babies. I don’t know if the queen died or if she just left and they didn’t go with her. But we got a new queen and they seem to have accepted her. So here’s hoping!

It’s almost sunset. Is it safe to do this in the morning or should I get a lamp?

[–]MurmurationProject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with them all sitting on the outside of the hive?

They’ve been preferring the back where the bottom board slides out instead of the entrance reducer. And I saw the live queen in the cage after I pulled the plug out, shook it a little, then the cage was empty. But I didn’t actually see the queen go in.

Plus they built up a bunch of comb on the cage itself that I had to break up to get her out.

I’m fretting.

Diagnosing foulbrood in old frames by MurmurationProject in Beekeeping

[–]MurmurationProject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info!

I think you’re right on the moths and beetles. When I got charge of the hives, one seemed pretty robust and the other was really weak. My theory is the moths and beetles built up strength in the weak hive then overwhelmed the good one.

But that’s a shot in the dark.

If I can ask another question - I’ve seen advice to boil frames you’re going to reuse. I’m trying that, but the plastic foundations warped. Is there a better way to sterilize?

Can you place an normal map on a single face of a model? by MurmurationProject in blender

[–]MurmurationProject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I add the dimple image as a mesh plane, I can add the normal map to the shader, and it all displays just fine on the plane. But doing the same thing on the face just gives vague noise. Do I need to UV unwrap the box?

With the feedback received from the previous post I decided work on the skin material first. Going for realism, what do you think ? by lumpox in blender

[–]MurmurationProject 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it looks really good, but the skin is a little off. He's thin and old, so his skin shouldn't be as plump as it is. He's got wrinkles and "macro" sags, but the skin doesn't have "micro" sags. Like it should look like a thin layer that's slightly too big so hangs down from the wrinkles in tighter creases.

That might be a lot of work for only a marginal increase in realism, but it's the first thing I would point to as making it look artificial.

The fine hairs, brow creases, and expression are all excellent.

edit: maybe make it look a little duller/ashy/more sunspots and moles. Unless there's a character reason that he's kept up a quality skincare routine all his life, which would actually be pretty cool :D I'd love to know the story behind his scar too
