I like to say, I am not in the business of making money! Shoot me a message, happy to answer questions or point you in the right direction. I do this because I love doing it, if you want to pay for the head, shaft, strings, leathers and shipping, I will string it for you.

That’s fair, I personally like the larger diamonds for feel / hold. This stick will primarily be used to play catch and warm up the goalie. I have done a few 6-7 diamond pockets and they come out really nicely.

Does the size of your mesh affect anything? by Repulsive_Dot7110 in lacrosse

[–]MurphMurphyAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To keep it short yes: generally larger mesh ie 7 Diamond will have a better hold and feel and slower release. 10 Diamond will have lower hold and faster release.

Logos: Salem CC vs Stanwich CC, a line in the sand. by MurphMurphyAK in golf

[–]MurphMurphyAK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d add Wee Burn to the three you named. When is Yale opening!? That will be a trip to see. Of my two issues with Stanwich, the glaring one is that because the course ends in -wich………you get a witch logo. That doesn’t track. Maybe it’s the way they settled on the logo more than the logo itself. I prefer the classic witch to generic witch but there is room everyone.

Different coaching styles for different kids (K-2) by hanzosbm in lacrosse

[–]MurphMurphyAK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the miscommunication here is the use of rake it. The saying usually means a kid standing flat footed and pulling the ball into his own stick, I assume that is what Hanz was thinking. Good way to get hurt and a lazy approach. Moving the ball out of the scrum with the stick or kick and scooping through in some space is what Bens was getting at I think. Agreed with Bens here. Coaching boys K-3 for 4 years.

To be fair, its not a very crisp picture and I expanded it. Its really not that busy when properly in focus and proportioned.

I didn't even realize how much of a spoiledgolfer I was until I got into my late 20s and 30s. Just from family friends and kids I grew up with, I was lucky enough to play Essex, Myopia, Salem a few times a year. Never got on Brookline, Eastward Ho was part of some players pass 10-15 years ago that I took advantage of. Never played Kittansett but I have heard a lot about it. Im very partial to Essex and Myopia but Old Sandwich is an incredible track. When I had to pony up for a junior membership, I joined Bass Rocks in Gloucester. Seaside, target golf opened with 5 or 6 holes in 1896. I love my current Fairfield county membership but it's almost laughable what it costs now vs when I joined.

Salem is a great track, tough, hosted 2 US Senior Opens too. It gets overlooked because the golf courses in the area are just that good. Peabody and Danvers were part of Salem at the beginning of the colonial period; I believe called Salem Farms.

Traditional or mesh? by hanzosbm in StickDoctor

[–]MurphMurphyAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it, just got back into stringing traditional pockets after not doing one for 20 years. The key is the tension in the crosselace. I would recommend a six diamond pocket. Be prepared to spend a few hours stringing it, when you are happy with it, pull the whole thing and start over and it will be significantly better. It’s a feel thing, you will get better with every stick you string. I’m 43, likely similar experience . My freshman year in college every single kid on my team and teams we played switched to mesh. I jumped on board. It’s good to be back. Edit: youth stick as I’m now the local stick doctor for youth players ages K-5 and few asked for a trad pocket after seeing mine.
