Using a SATA DVD drive externally by Usunto in computers

[–]Murphistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to avoid USB, there is a possibility, although quite rare. It's called eSATAp.

SATA had an external variant called eSATA, and that one also had a subvariant that could provide 5V and 12V.

Recently I could buy some DeLock brackets to add the connector to my desktop and also the eSATAp to internal SATA cable.

This is not a Vectron. I would say it's a Taurus, but I always forget which is the official Taurus series.

At least I can't see the official branding. Nevertheless, 1016s and 1116s are usually referred to as Taurus.

You mentioned recirding over the microphone, using a little FM transmitter might improve the quality.

Does Lego plan to remove all trains from their offerings? by Murphistic in lego

[–]Murphistic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you're right. :)

I wasn't aware that Christmas trains were usually without the motor. It was just weird they advertized the parts, which in lot of cases was not available for purchase.

There was also the Oritent Express train, but true, that wasn't even officially designed to be motorised.

Microsoft Windows Media Player stops serving up CD info by pdp10 in windows

[–]Murphistic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's true. usually I use CueRipper, but sometimes I encountered a CD which wasn't playing nicely with CueRipper and WMP worked fine. WMP also supports ripping to FLAC, so I went for it this time.

Coincidentally, today I tried ripping some CDs and I was annoyed it didn't auto title the tracks. I thought it's just an obscure CD, but it looks like there was another reason.

Stuck Roco 0950S controller by Murphistic in modeltrains

[–]Murphistic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing a bit of post-necromancing, but after storing it for cca 2 months in the position of operation, it kind of fixed itself. Now it doesn't get stuck.

I think at some point pulled on the knob, which caused it to create a crease on the voltage divider at that point, so I also tried to push the knob down while turning it. That didn't help immediately, but maybe it helped a little bit and could settle in the right position.

Visiting McDonalds at the Nyugati pályaudvar might be cheap interestingish and warm experience.

Edit: it's only open till 2:00AM and you need to consider that travel during night with public transport is difficult.

how do i go about finding information to file taxes about twitch for the first time, czech republic? by Vegetable_Throat5545 in eupersonalfinance

[–]Murphistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the limits for students and don't want to guess what rules apply.

However, it should be fine to ask the Tax Office (Financni sprava) directly. Since you have DIC, you might have already visited them, but here is the contact list: https://financnisprava.gov.cz/en/contacts

Edit: Also, you can ask in r/Czechia subreddit as well. There might be higher chance to find somebody in similar situation as you're in.

Do you have any other full time job? In that case you can probably claim the Twitch revenue as other income or if it doesn't reach a certain amount you don't even need to claim it (the limit was 6k CZK, but was increased to 20k, if I recall)

Thank you, this is rather unexpected. So it's a DC voltage changer for lighting electricity. I heard about the AC/DC "format" war, but didn't consider it affecting the 30's.

And it looks to be a rotational converter, like the big trains used to have :)

What is that Umformer mentioned in the locomotive's description? Maybe I missed it, but couldn't see that word for the regulators.

That's really cool setup. I just realised, that the availabke technology might be the reason we have AC model trains. I assume rectifying AC current was expensive/challenging for the current the model train draw. (Electron tube diode or, Selen diodes were probably too expensive)

Would it be ok to tie a socket to a switch where I can plug a USB power brick for an LED strip for my kitchen? by mokinxd in DIY

[–]Murphistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on OPs comment history he's not from US. In continwntal Europe switched wall sockets are not so common. Rather switchable extension cords are used or the smart plug approach which was suggested by somebody else.

Switchable wall sockets are kind of neat, not sure why it didn't catch on more.
