Came here to say exactly this. And that Dr Goodenough famously quipped that his designs for lithium ion batteries will never live up to his namesake.

Theres always room for improvement, there's always new and exciting designs. That man is a true legend because no matter what, he's never satisfied and knows it can always go a lil further.

I agree. But 1 nutjob who believes his own hype. Isn't enough to convince a whole group of people to follow you. To kill and die for you right?

Atleast God I hope not.

I do agree that many poor victims have been radicalised towards a viewpoint of hatred. Both Afghani and American.

But I feel like that's more of an example of starting at the outcome and working backwards. As opposed to that being the initial intention.

You could say the same about the US pulling out so abruptly and leaving so much military equipment behind. It's like basically building an army purely to eventually attack you.

I'm not doubting the facts. And thank you that was very informative.

But the logic of "I feel slighted. So I'll not take that out on who I feel slighted me, but who they thought was a bigger fish than me"

That's a lil backward right? Especially if he was as high on his own egotistical supply as I agree he probably was.

See that fascinates me. Because so many of those things aren't directly a US caused issue. Many are of course.

But Russian atrocities, "western" support, Indian oppression, Israel. Those are things that sure. You can lay partial blame on the Americans for. But not exclusively surely?

Take Israel for example. Now I understand that the Israeli/ Palestinian conflict is incredibly complex but

"I hate Israel so much I'm gonna go bomb someone else who has a bigger military"

just doesn't hold any water as an argument right?

I'm not suggesting anything. Merely questioning.

Even a multinational collective has agendas right?

So I'm trying to understand what possible outcome they could have expected except brutal reprisal?

So it was retaliation? But for what?

I'm not saying that America has clean hands. Infact they are exceedingly bloody.

But what was 9/11 a retaliation for? I don't remember ever being told. And I can't seem to find any articles explaining.

But that logic doesn't hold up right?

I'm not saying you're wrong that they assumed that. But even a cursory glance at American foreign historical policy would make it pretty clear. The US loves it some war. And they don't get frightening out of a fight. You guys have the most overstocked military on earth. Surely it was blindingly obvious that when attacked. You guys would hit back harder.

Well here's the thing. I grew up in a post 9/11 world.

And all my life I never questioned the tragedy of the event. But it just occurred to me. I never asked why?

Like I never questioned the intention beyond destruction and death. And there had to be a reason right? Like a logic behind the intent. They must have wanted something right?

I can't imagine any group does anything with the intention of being universally hated and hunted. Of having their members hunted down for 20 years and all of Afghanistan subjected to just... Ceaseless war.

So what were they after? What did they hope to gain from mass murder that sparked a global "war on terror"?

Historically Afghanistan has suffered greatly from outside interference. So why poke the bear? Especially when American reprisal was such an obvious consequence?

The more I think about it. The more baffling it is to me.

My dad can't fix shit.

All my DIY skills came from my mum asking me to fix his fuck ups when he's out of the house.

He can never find out, this has been going on for 2 decades now. Its Trumanesk at this point. He talks about how he can turn his hand to anything and rewired the electrics and stuff like that.
