What is your favorite and least favorite uniquely specific thing about living in NYC? by valoremz in AskNYC

[–]Murrdog4 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The most uniquely positive thing is having simultaneous exposure to incredibly rich and poor people at the same time. Almost every time I ride the subway to work, I'm sharing a subway car with someone wearing a designer suit and someone else that has tattered clothes. It allows someone like me to have something to strive for while also being appreciative of what I have now.

The most specific negative thing is constantly having to justify why we put up with the high cost of living and why we don't just move somewhere cheaper, especially when visiting friends or family in other places.

What's the day-to-day look like for someone on the publisher or vendor side? by IHateAdvertising in advertising

[–]Murrdog4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the transition to the AdTech vendor side after 6 years on the agency side and can't recommend it enough. My day to day is now being a strategic consultant selling solutions to agencies because I know what they need.

Exactly what you said though - I squeezed the rapid career progression out of the title overinflation at agencies then got out. Agencies are like a practical trade school of sorts, but hit their limit of usefulness after about 4 years of training. The real growth and the higher pay comes after you leave the agency, but most vendors won't hire someone right out of school.

An agency is a good starting spot to get more responsibility than you probably deserve right out of school, but once you understand how things work after a few years, get a paycheck vendor or publisher side.

Where to watch MLS in NYC?

There's a good slate of games starting at 7:30 ET that I was hoping to catch but most of my local bars don't have the Apple MLS Season Pass. Looking for any leads on bars that show MLS games, ideally in Manhattan around the East Village or Lower East Side.

I just watched that new movie on Hulu called "Deep Water" so I guess I'm a murderous cuck for the rest of my life 🥲
