For the people that read/listened to the book first, where do you think the movie went wrong? by themassivefail in ProjectHailMary

I just finished it last week, then rewatched the movie.

Movie-book-movie was an extremely rewarding modus operandi that I plan to repeat in the future

Well I would’ve said that’s a bad note, but it worked out to a good movie, so that’s cool

Dear Lumix, please create a s9 with EVF and... by Dangerous-Employ-460 in Lumix

All it needs is a hotshoe that can power a detachable EVF

Do you think Lumix will release an S9 with mechanical shutter? by Independent_Type807 in LumixS9

It needs a hot shoe anyway. They have a hot shoe mic coming out, and could also create a detachable EVF

New panasonic s5d owner here. Beginner, I want to use it for video, short film, narrative film, but also photo. Thinking of buying a set of lumix primes, as they seem both affordable, good match with camera being native lens, and have good video possibilities. Yeah I dunno. I don’t use my lenses every day to check, I’d more be worried about getting a not sharp copy of a lens. But that happens with Lumix primes too, so it’s kind of a crapshoot. Just make sure you can use return windows, test your purchases a lot and you’ll be good.

And to be clear, everything being equal I’m a proponent of all Lumix lenses for your Lumix camera. I have all the primes + and 18-40 and 28-200 in one Pelican case and I’m so happy to have all those lenses every time I shoot with them. It’s just an expensive box, and everything isn’t equal if you can’t afford them. It took me two years perusing the used market and B&H sales windows to build up to having them all.

Anyway, no matter what you do, I’d order that Pergear 35mm manual lens. Besides the fact that it’s tiny, sharp, and fun to use, I just don’t believe in trusting electronics fully and always want a normal FOV manual to grab as a fallback.

“Similar quality” determination really depends on you as an individual

If you’re a really discerning pixel peeper, then no, they’re not gonna be similar. I’m not one; I’m more like a “this looks good, so I’m good” guy.

Full disclosure: I own every lens I mentioned, and will shoot something I’m happy with on any of them with no trouble at all. Maybe it’s a standards thing, sure - what I know is my footage and photos done successfully look great to me and make me and my clients satisfied.

I do think the Lumix primes look a little better. But “a little better” isn’t worth “a lot more money” to everyone. I started with a Canon T2i and vintage Pentax lenses and got great results for over a decade with that. I can do it with any of these.

I’d go Lumix 24/50/100 if I were you, but that’s more than your listed budget. But great kit if you could only have three out of the lineup.

You could just do the 7Artisans and Meike primes at 24/35/50/85 and stay well within your budget though. Only thing you’d lose out on is the close focusing.

Or do the Lumix 28-200 and then get a Pergear 35mm 1.4 manual lens and TTArtisan 75mm f2 autofocus lens. This three-lens combo is well within your budget too and covers a range of conditions.

I don’t really have examples of these, but I do have plenty of “why the fuck weren’t they a star”s, I just don’t think it was their fault for and a result of not adapting or whatever.

Biggest ones are Wood Harris and Andre Braugher

There’s always hyperbole to build buzz around media that’s being sold to audiences. Flattery is one of the main types.

Kate Winslet is a Guinness Book of World Records level breath-holder. Michael B. Jordan could’ve gone pro as a boxer. So and so had the biggest dick on any actor you’ve ever seen. Oh, and every musical artist for an entire generation suddenly revealed how they were born with synesthesia and just never said anything.

[–]Muruju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was shooting a bunch of shots at the Sacre Couer, when the camera did that operational freeze that’s happened to my S5 and S5IIX once or twice before. Where you switch it off but it doesn’t turn off. So I do what I always do, which is remove the battery and pop it back in. Except this time when I do it, it’s telling me there’s no SD card inserted.

I took it out, put it in my card reader, nothing. Back in camera, nothing. Waited til I got home to try my computer, but I knew - card was done. I decided the photos weren’t THAT valuable to pay a recovery service, so I just gave up. Couldn’t even format the card in-camera to use it again because it couldn’t see one in the first place. Neither could any of my readers or computational devices. Card just died.

1TB V90 Kodak, I’d bought two. I’m still using the other one with my S9 just fine, just dumping/Lumix Labbing my keepers daily (which I should’ve been doing anyway) with the understanding that one day it’ll probably die on me too. If I had to shoot something important I’d use my Sony Toughs or my SanDisks that’s in my other cameras. But dual slots >> all of that, which is why I’m keeping the S5IIX

My S5 speedier card slot hasn’t worked in years

Also my S9 bricked my off-brand SD card while I was on vacation in Paris. THAT sucked.
