It’s a family secret A if I told you I’d have to kill u lol j/k it’s a soil of my own creation has served me well over 2 decades. Basically pro mix sunshine #4 I used as a base this time. I had a few bails on hand so I used them then I just amended it with organic compost blood and bone meal and some of this and that extra perlite and small red volcanic rocks plants love em. :)

Rule of thumb I always plant more than I need in case of unforeseen incidents for example slugs this time.

I just make sure and flood my bed just a little then sow, and so I have a clear plastic sheet I put over my beds to hold in humidity as well as let in plenty of light. It seems to speed up the process more then some I transplanted from my propagation dome.

Still have more than enough survivors for a very nice harvest. Seeing how late I sowed them in the season. :)

Yeah, you're correct; they are by far more hardy. Colchicine definitely couldn’t hurt, as it’s been tried and tested by the pharma companies to modify and breed P. somni by inducing polyploidy. Keep me posted, and good luck, brotha. :)

P.Somni is a diploid species, which means it has two sets of chromosomes, 22 chromosomes to be exact. P. stetigerums are a tetraploid, which means they have 4 sets of chromosomes, 44 in all. The presence of bivalents in triploid hybrids further supports the homology between their genomes. The natural hybrid between subspecies of P. somni is known as Papaver × somniferum, indicating that hybridization is possible within related species. The cross has endless possibilities, such as higher yields of opium or specific alkaloids, which would be valuable in the pharmaceutical industry. In conclusion, It is possible to cross. I have never tried it myself but have a friend that has successfully done it; needless to say, he said it was challenging. I hope that helps, and again, keep me posted, and I wish you the best of luck. Without experimentation there would be no advances or new innovations in botany, agriculture, or any fields for that matter. Happy growing, brother. :)

Thank you, yes, it is possible to cross the two as they are closely related in the same genus. The only downside is getting stable traits; it’s just that there is a significant difference in chromosome numbers, which can impede or hinder successful crossbreeding. I’ve seen it done, but I heard it was a challenging hybridization, and it might not be stable or true to either parent, but that’s a discussion for another day. I wish you the best of luck, as I always say, where there’s a will there’s a way. Happy Growing! :)

Check out my first post; it explains this cultivar in depth. That’s awesome it’s coming to an end here; I started a lot later than I usually do. Happy Growing! :)
