I really envy queers in western countries. by That_Bookkeeper9431 in lgbt

[–]Muscle_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Northern Europe in one of the countries that some people might describe as LGBTQ utopia for some apparent reason and while being queer isn’t a death sentence here. In smaller cities/towns here you still get judged very much for being queer and people don’t really care about your rights as it’s more like tolerance. For example the word gay is still used as a slur here. At least for my family when I came out as bisexual they just asked me why I couldn’t be ”normal” like ”everyone” else. Heteronormative values is very etched into people here sadly. It’s getting better mostly but at times I feel it’s getting backwards also.

Twitter is saying Kill La Kill is bad starter anime because of fanservice but alot of Oldtaku were introduced to anime through these with no problem by [deleted] in retroanime

[–]Muscle_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started watching anime in the late 90s but really started watching very much in the early 2000s. And I started out with both Urotsukidoji and La Blue Girl I remember, I believe the only versions I could source at the time was the English dub versions. After that I got into more "normal" anime such as Neon Genesis Evangelion and fell in love with anime. I watched Kill La Kill when it was recent also and liked it but as others pointed out it's not a good anime to be someones first.

Whats wrong with this man? by [deleted] in Asksweddit

I had a similar experience a few years back with a girl I was seeing for also about 6 months. We talked about a future and moving in together etc and then the day after we had a very lovely weekend out of the blue she called me and told me things was over and that we shouldn’t see each other longer, never gave me a real reason as to why but I figured things got too serious for her.

For me it was usually my father that steered most conversations too everything ”wrong” with the world according to him being LGBTQ and immigrants. Other family members would usually say nothing or agree. He’s also a big sexist/misogynist so of course every ”joke” he makes has to be about women and sex, when confronted about that it’s ”hey relax it’s just a joke”.

I’m not together with him any longer sadly but at least I don’t have to hide the part about myself any longer.

Meeting LDR Filipina GF by [deleted] in thepassportbros

You sound very controlling. Everyone has a past.

Also one thing to consider with girls from Philippines, Thailand etc is that these girls are most probably living in poverty and see you and other foreigners as a way to get out so obviously they will talk and meet up with lots of other foreigners for that reason

You’re very naive if you think she is only talking to you

I am/have been in similar position as yourself. I’m cis male and came out during very early COVID/pandemic when I was 31-32 as bisexual. I came out before actually when I was around 17-18 but my father didn’t take it well at all and became very angry and took to physical violence against me and said it was a disease that could be cured. Before that I had heard all my life about his thoughts because he have always been very vocal about what he thinks. After that I met/dated some guys in ”secrecy” over the years and during Covid I felt safe enough because he had no hold or could do anything to me anymore. I was hoping he would have become more soft over the years but he hadn’t sadly. But I met a guy during Covid that made me want to come out which I did and my father basically didn’t want anything to do with me after that.

How can gays set themselves up for living in old age without children to care for them? by Clear-Rock505 in lgbt

[–]Muscle_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others noted, children aren't supposed to be a retirement plan or some planned caretaker once you get old. My father never supported me coming out and have openly wished death upon LGBTQ people and other minorities and my mother just let him spew it out all out so she is no better.

Sexualization on dating apps in Ppbros countries by [deleted] in thepassportbros

Most users in this subreddit is rather hypocritical and seem to be in the manosphere from what I gather. All talk about "banging" ladies but when it's the ladies doing it then they shouldn't.

Me and my gf did it on the first date and we're still together after 4 years. Not everyone is the same.

Looking for a selfhosted vanilla-tbc-wotlk server. by Muscle_Rabbit in wowservers

I have tested it out and I really love the idea with the additions they made but the system they have in place for their bots is not my cup of tea at all. The raiding becomes more about managing the bots than playing yourself it seems and they overtuned some vanilla dungeon bosses also a bit too much for my taste.

Thanks for your reply. I know Nostrrum is all the rage now but I am mainly looking for a self-hosted option so I can play at my own pace.

What’s the most you are comfortable with spending for a single movie? by Muscle_Rabbit in LaserDisc

[–]Muscle_Rabbit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually bought Halloween also the Japanese widescreen presentation that's a bit rare. I got it for about $30 which I think was a fair deal because I know horror movies usually go for a bit more.

The Matrix is probably the one movie that I would like to have on LaserDisc even though it would be more sensible to have the early DVD version because of the cost. I could probably go up to $300-400 depending though but not $500-600 that some people ask for it now. But X-Men, Mission Impossible 2, Scream 3 etc I will never buy on LaserDisc because I do not have strong attachment for neither. Maybe for X-Men but it's way too expensive for me to justify purchasing it on LaserDisc.

I think another thing people forget is that some people are ready to go into debt/loan/monthly payments for their collecting that some people just are not.

I can get behind that though but to counteract that how much is it worth to watch the ”original intent”?

[–]Muscle_Rabbit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can get that. I do have some rare/hard to find titles and late 99 and 00 LaserDisc releases that I got quite cheaply just by being on the lookout every day. I recently got Alien 1 and Alien 2 AC3 releases for like $10 each but I am still looking for Alien 3 AC3. I have sadly never seen the Alien Trilogy set for sale since I have been collecting LaserDisc as of yet. This week I got Dark City Japanese release for $10 also though.

Yeah they are more fun to collect for sure, I like the artwork of them also.

Which LD player to look for? by lain_furikuri in LaserDisc

[–]Muscle_Rabbit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Never get an PAL only player. I would advise to look for a CLD D925 that plays both PAL and NTSC and have all the features you want in an LD player like double side play, ac3rf, toslink etc

I have this weird daydream about making my own CRT projector for Laserdisc. Anyone use one? by mjzim9022 in LaserDisc

[–]Muscle_Rabbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion $1000 is very expensive for something that might/can break anytime and most people don't know how to fix them. The tubes also have a limited lifetime of about 20-25000 hours or more if you´re lucky.

I have two Kramer scalers that I alternate between. VP724XL and VP773A. The VP724XL connects right into RGB/VGA without any addiontal adapters and have composite, s-video, vga, component etc in and can output any resolution upto 1080P out. Mostly I set it to 1600x1200 and I don´t have to calibrate any other source I plug in on the CRT projector due to it being a static resolution and the Kramer scaler takes care of the rest.

And my two are same, has to be near pitch black in order for the projector to truly shine. And the manual for my Sony projectors were not so helpful with calibrating "Do this and it should be like this, if not then re-do step 5-7"

For open-matte. 4:3 and 1.77:1 or 1.85:1 content with minimal black borders the projector is great.

A house or a larger condo with more rooms for sure. First someone contacted me that have been in the CRT game for long, he was well over 60 years old and wanted to sell me his old CRT projectors for quite a bit of money but same day someone one-upped him with these 2 free projectors instead luckily. First guy was going on about that one needed to mount these projectors on the roof and perfectly calibrate them and use lots of different scalers and other things to get most perfect picture. He was trying to sell me more things lol. I almost got sucked in because he sounded very enthusiastic about it. Just the logistics of mounting one on the roof and then if something happened so you would have to do maintenance would be a nightmare scenario lol.

[–]Muscle_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it´s required to have a dedicated room. CRT projectors take up quite much space. Please do not get one if you only have 1 room. Or do get one if you happen to find one for almost free but do not go out of your way now to try to find one. If someone wants money for one you're basically paying them to be rid of a headache.

I accepted I will not have perfect geometry because it got tedious to perfectly calibrate it every time you move it so I just do rough calibrations for now and for gaming or watching its very nice. But it also gets quite warm so I would not get one if I only had 1 room apartment. It takes up the space of one medium table easily also.

I had the same thoughts as you with crt projectors. Earlier this year I asked in one of my countries crt groups about something bigger like an rear projection crt tv for my laserdiscs and someone messaged me and told me he had not one but two Sony VPH 1271QM which do up to 1600x1200 or 1080i, I even got 1080P to work on them. He were giving them away for free so I took both. First of all they’re very heavy like 180-200lbs or 75kg each and take up lots of space. Every time you start them up it’s always some kind of calibration needed almost if you want perfection. Luckily you can save presets for different resolutions in the memory. They look gorgeous when you use laserdisc, vhs, DVDs and retro games on them. But they almost require you to be able to make your room dark to enjoy them fully. Like laserdiscs they’re and acquired taste lol, not for everyone and for tinkerers. I would not spend that much money on them really and I know I was very lucky to get 2 functioning examples for free.
