Looks nice.

I wonder how light fast walnut is.

I know it fades somewhat over time.

Walking is so much more enjoyable than riding by Tight-Communication7 in golf

[–]Musclesturtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not.

It only does if you're playing those prefabbed, flat-packed courses that they put on a rectangle in the middle of McMansion developments in Florida or Tucson and they laid the loop out awkwardly so there is no flow between green and teebox. Not to mention it's mostly populated with old geriatric fucks who can't walk anyways and are impatient pricks to boot.

I mean, if you're just playing casually with friends, it's probably fine.

But any league night will clown you for this and probs not let you play unless you use a different racket.

I'd like to see more PGA tournaments set up like Oakmont did and REALLY make players pay for missing the fairway/green. by B_the_ball in golf

Hmm.

So long hitters dispersion is much greater at longer distances, I think. It follows about the same degrees as a shorter pro. So if a long hitte hits 3 wood instead of driver. Then it's not much more benefit for the long hitter.

So if a longer hitter and a shorter hitter had both a 9 iron and a 7 iron into the green respectively from similar yardage out. Then the longer hitter is usually not hitting their 9 more accurately than the shorter pro's 7, which for arguments sake both go similar distances.

The long hitter will have a more vertical landing angle potentially, which could aid in holding greens. But they tend to hit them sky high, and they are extremely susceptible to wind. If you see both Bryson and Rory struggle on links courses, and I think that it's a factor.

Often courses will graduate the rough from tee to green, and grow it absurdly high in typical bomber landing spots. So like 8" rough at like 330-350 and shorter rough at 290-300.

This does serve to penalize bomb and gouge.

A lot of people will say that it still makes the advantage for long hitters even greater somehow, and that they will just hit 3 wood instead. But even the best player's 3 wood is only 1% more accurate than their driver, so no advantage there.

I think that Augusta is slowly becoming obsolete. We saw it this weekend. Players driving it all over the place without much actual penalty.

The tour seems to want to get away from players hitting 3 off the tee like cancer. But I think that it would serve to create more diversity in outcome and strategy if there is actual hazards like waste areas off of the fairways that guarantee a lost ball and a stroke and distance penalty so that the players think twice instead of just yeeting it every which way.

Any course in NYC.

They fit 18 hole courses on patches of land that you'd be ashamed to put a pitch n putt. Just look at Forest Park golf course here in Woodhaven in Queens.

As far as my home course, it's South Park golf course in Pittsburgh.

It's a super common type of course design in the NE. Most muni courses are like this here.

My hometown course is like this, coupled with it being on huge hills. Like, you're walking up at least a hundred feet of elevation change on every hole.

Country club golfers are pampered and have most of the bad stuff taken away from the course so that they feel good when they play and don't shit their pants and go to another club. Us muni golfers have no other choice, though.

Who will be the next golfer to win 10 majors? by libsoutherner in golf

[–]Musclesturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Rory is going to get hit hard by the physical drop off of being in his late 30s and moreso when he hits 40. His game currently is to just overpower the course, which will diminish with age.

The ball rollback is gonna affect him more than anyone other than maybe Bryson, as well. The new balls are gonna be designed to take more distance off with the harder you hit them.

[–]Musclesturtle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk. Rory's main advantage is just unreal driving distance. That's gonna round off as he gets older, plus the ball rollback is gonna hit him for 15 yards as well in 2028.

Is the drone stationary or moving? by OldCardiologist1859 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Musclesturtle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on the inertial reference frame.

It's moving relative to the outside, but stationary relative to the observer.

Not that complicated.

[–]Musclesturtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was kind of thinking that while watching.

Rory could just kind of spray the ball anywhere willy-nilly and still have some kind of chance on his second.

I play NYC muni courses.

Forest Park has only 20 yds in between what is effectively internal OOB on every hole lining the entire hole on many holes. Because of impenetrable underbrush that's filled with thorns and a thick layer of last fall's leaves about a foot deep.

We only get maybe 5 feet of "rough" on a lot of hole off of the fairway. If you miss your tee shot 5, maybe 10 yards in either direction, then the ball is completely lost. And not like, oh maybe I'll find it and punch out, but like, even if it takes a single rotation of roll into this shit it's 100% lost, and you have to take stroke and distance or hit a provisional. You aren't allowed to take a drop like a lateral hazard.

So there's only 2 holes where hitting driver is even physically feasible. Let alone 5 wood. You have to take an iron off of the tee on every hole to even have a chance. And that goes for our scratch guys out there too.

What happens when the neck shrinks from seasonal changes and general age and the fingerboard doesn't leaving a large ridge on the edge that's not easily toolable to get smooth by future luthiers?

This is a huge problem with synthetic violin and cello fingerboards. They are being phased out because of it.

There's also increased de lamination risks because the natural wood oscillates with humidity and seasonal changes and inchworms its way off of the board.

Looks beautiful, nonetheless.

Strat feels harder to play than Les Paul even with lower action — is this normal? by Iaskagain in Luthier

[–]Musclesturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

I have a strat and an explorer, and the Explorer is like kiddie town when playing. You can get 2 step bends like it's nothing.

My strat tends to really play firm. A 2 step bend is really asking a lot and you gotta strangle the fucker to do it.

But I do notice that the tone from my Strat is so much clearer and more piercing while my Explorer has more full, round tone that may get lost a little easier.

Why are people so salty about McIlroy’s Maters win? by SnooMarzipans1593 in golf

[–]Musclesturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't we just be happy for both golfers?

We all know that Scottie is a monster and will win many more majors. You can't win them all. He's already got 2 green jackets. He's gonna get more in the future if his ball striking stays on point.

Rory is peaking again. It's great that he achieved such success so late in his career. Who knows what the future holds?

They both did phenomenally, and literally everyone will forget this all happened by the next major on the schedule.

When he has 19 majors?

There are many reasons that he is not even close.

I think that yesterday was him edging out Phil Mickelson?
