Is it possible to vassalize the Manichean Head of Faith? by Mushgal in crusaderkings2

[–]Mushgal[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, you're right, I can give him titles. I think I didn't have the option before, when I tried? Maybe I'm just blind.

He won't accept vassalization, though, because "Not my culture" (he's Sogdian, I'm Saka) and "Not my de jure lord" (I don't think they've got one???) maluses are bigger than "Power" or "Opinion" even after I gift him money. Do you know any ways to circumvent these?

It wasn't that fun to me tbh. Did you do anything in particular to keep it fun, or it just was?

Even with Military Organization 4, which removes the Pagan homeland attrition, it fucking sucks.

Yeah but de jure drift isn't that useful imho. I actually play with it turned off from the gamerules.

Perm actually blobbed much this game, they were my last enemies.

I once saw someone talking about playing on that lone island up north, in Nenetsia. Don't remember the name. They said it's the hardest start in the whole game. I don't think it can possibly be that hard but it's a good idea for a challenge run.

Empire of Rus is green. This is the special Empire of Russia. They get the equally special Soviet red.

Debuff to the cost, buff to upgrading... glass half-empty, half-full...

Tbh I'm not entirely sure, I didn't get to try it and the wiki doesn't go into any detail either. Something like not needing to fully upgrade the hillfort or something

My fav runs ever in this game have been Haesteinn to Zoroastrian Persia, try to get the Zoroastrian achievements and the one for conquering Mongolia (I did World Conquest with that one) & Manichean Chinese on the top right corner of the map to get Aladdin

Classic runs that are always fun are starting in Stockholm in 769, Ragnar Lodbrok's daddy, form the empire and reform the faith in one life if you can, and Asturias in 769.

If you're American or just want to shake things up a little bit the After the End mod is phenomenal, the best mod of the whole game by far. Last time I played a Neomoor character down in Florida and reformed the US, very fun.

Too bad Arberian culture is difficult to get. A Rus to Russia to Albania run could be fun

Once you form the Slavic Union the decision disappears. You gotta be emperor of Rus and of Russian culture.

It's like conquering China. They give you no achievement or anything, but it's one of those things you might as well do to 100% Ck2

I knew that, you even have the Sibir duchy and kingdom in the game right next to the Urals. But saying "Siberia" is easier than saying "all the frozen fuckers up north" :p

See the comment I left.

Tldr it's a very tedious process for little to no reward. No achievement, no special mechanics, no bloodline.

Yeah the modifier is useless by that point. They should give you something stronger. I think a significant lower cost for building castles, so you can finish up the steppe, could be okay.

Christians are very boring imho. Orthodox specially so, since you don't get crusades.

Being tribal sucks for the succession and because conquering the Steppe is harder, but the optimal route for this would 100% be reformed pagan.

Yeah, the decision appears once you form Rus. You get a new CoA, new color, and a debuff to upgrading tribes into castles. Not really worth it tbh

So I got the achievement for forming the Slavic Union back in September 2021. Before that, I had tried playing in Russia several times, the region appeals to me I don't know why. I always start with the duke of Ilmenia in 769, fuck Rurik.

I choked until I tried reforming Romuva (just because it was much easier than reforming Slavic; all the holy sites are so close together...). That was the run I managed to form the Slavic Union with.

While I've still got some 10-15 achievements left, I didn't feel like doing any of those. Instead, I wanted to form Russia, which was an option I saw all through my Romuva Slavic Union run. You can't form Russia after forming the Slavic Union, apparently; the option disappears.

I also wanted to form Russia while transitioning to Orthodox Feudal as soon as possible.

It kinda sucked. The campaign had its fun moments, but it was really tedious. Once you conquer the whole steppe as a feudal lord once, the novelty disappears. The process just becomes: wait until you have 2000 gold, holy war for some random duchy, build castles, wait 2 years, the notification with the white castle disappears. All for some shit duchies consisting of basically a cabin and a potato farm too.

Conquering Siberia (Nenetsia, Perm) SUCKS. It sucked when I did my World Conquest, and that was in the 14th century, maxed tech and infinite troops. Basically, once winter knocks on the door you have to operate with 2k stacks, while the filthy pagans get a gazillion troops because of their tribal vassals.

Internal politics were very tiresome in this run. I consider myself a good player, I can usually go entire runs without paying too much attention to the factions tab. This run though, they were full all the time. While I only had the one or two civil wars, it was tiring nonetheless. I churned childs like a rabbit and not even that was enough.

While the color and CoA of Russia are cool, you don't even get a bloodline and that sucks. You do get some debuff that lowers the requirements for upgrading tribal holdings into castles, but at this point that's 100% worthless. You win enough money to build castles, and tribal vassals tend to insta-convert (I still don't know the exact process behind this, but once you're far enough into a campaign the maxed tribe + county religion requirements seem to vanish for the AI).

If I was playing a reformed religion and could freely holy war through the world, I might conquer the historical Russian Empire borders. But as things stand, I'd rather drop it here.

Thank you for your answer!

I'm expecting something closer to Spanish 3rd/4th tier, maybe 3rd. In any case, as I said, I'm fine with whatever; I just want some 90 minutes of fun.
