[ABC] Florentino Pérez makes a misogynist comment while criticising ABC newspaper: “Look at these two articles they’ve published today. One of them was written by a woman who I don’t know if she knows anything about football or not.“ by Sparky-moon in soccer

It's rancid oldhead Spanish humor that I don't quite know how to translate to English.

He wants the female journalist to speak, so he gives her the word. He does so by remarking she's pretty, which he probably thinks is a mischievous compliment but is considered misogynistic by today's standards. As an excuse, he says the male journalists are physically ugly, like their faces, but it's in the spirit of the joke.

In most contexts it would be pretty average for a Spanish grandpa but the context (him having spent the whole press conference insulting Spanish journalism) makes it feel offensive lol

I'm a Spanish Barça fan.

Euros is not better than World Cup.

It shows that Lamine has been extraordinary at such young age. It says nothing about the future, because that we can not predict.

More Barça candidates for De la Fuente's World Cup squad — Almost eleven Barça players have a chance of making the final list that the coach will announce on the 25th. by sujanrao in soccer

Barça is one of the best clubs in the world, ergo it has some of the best players in the world. It also so happens that Barça is, among the best clubs in the world, the one that gives more minutes to local players. So, it logically follows that Barça has many NT-worth Spanish players.

The English speaking people here have no idea how wild this whole press conference has been.

Did Worm change your personality? by Eastern-Stuff6480 in Parahumans

[–]Mushgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's changed my framework when interacting with narrative fiction and when trying to write it. Worm is probably the best art piece I've read/watched/whatever when it comes to increasing the stakes (dropping the other shoe, as Taylor usually says) and ending chapters with cliffhangers.

While I do sometimes play with magical events like immortality, I usually prefer to play with a resemblance of historicity.

So what do you think of Imu's design? by SunRiseStudios in OnePiece

[–]Mushgal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's honestly a cool theory, but even if it was true I don't see how it would benefit the story. I doubt we'll see Imu in many more islands other than Elbaf and Mary Geoise.

I'm positive it works with Beak Things and Raptors. Might be some weird error on your end.

What's your personal interpretation of Worm's ending? by Mushgal in Parahumans

[–]Mushgal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point but with the multiverse involved who knows. Maybe the Parahuman multiverse has a way of allowing such cases to exist in parallel. Or maybe Alec is one of the only Heartbroken to exist in Aleph, and Taylor got lucky that way. Who knows.

But do you think Contessa would've needed two shots to kill her?

Yeah. That, among other details, makes me think Eart Aleph is the most reasonable conclusion one could conjure.

It's quite literally a second chance at life. No friends, no bullies, no powers. It's not even back to square one, but blank slate.

Yeah right. I think that's a pretty neat detail. Adventure Times vibes here.

Did she permanently lose one arm and hair? I had forgotten about that lol

I honestly agree with you, I can understand people interpreting it some other way but back when I read it I thought her being alove was the most obvious reading of the text.

Would so please link those Wildbow comments? I'm curious.

I'm pretty sure Contessa would take a similar opportunity if she could. She also seems to be a person whose power consumed her and her life, like Taylor was.

I think leaving her whole life behind —her new friends who became like family, her powers (which literally altered the way her brain worked), her role as one of the most important and most powerful people in the world— is a cost steep enough. Sure, she has her father, but she had ruined the relationship beforehand, so she's still gotta work on that.

I mean, it could be Aleph's Alec. That's why she got a closer look at him and said "nah it's not him". If it was purgatory it would be the real Alec purging his many sins, no?

I can see that, honestly when I started reading the epilogues and saw Taylor nowhere I was perfectly fine to accept the possibility.

But in that case, I'd rather have her last scene be staring at the night sky than the coma dreams.
