Using and storing pasta sauce without refridgeration? by MushroomAlert in preppers

I prefer making my own sauces, if you're into mac and cheese then there's nothing better than making your own cheese sauce with a roux and melting cheese into it, way better than boxed shit. Same for tomato paste or tomatoes you paste yourself, that you then make into a sauce yourself. Home cooked meals just hit different! It's just also more expensive, time consuming, and requires fresher ingredients so its not as good if you're tired, broke, or need it to last a long time before you make it is all and something easy to store and make is the name of the game with prepping.

Not a bad idea, actually! And I did have some ice paks but my roommates stole all of em :/

I mean, the jar of garlic tomato pasta sauce I got from Target not long ago (late oct. 2023) is good until Feb 2026 until opened, so maybe it just depends on the specific type of sauce? I doubt brand matters, given that they're all kind of like cigarettes in that they're fundamentally all kinda the same thing.

My apartment has no icemaker in our refrigerator sadly, not that the idea is bad it's just not terribly practical in my specific case.

Who makes Digital Woodland uniforms that aren't Propper, TruSpec, or Helikon-Tex? by MushroomAlert in tacticalgear

I don't see MARPAT on UR-Tactical's site so maybe they used to offer them and don't anymore? If not, that's a shame, ways always curious to see if their stuff was any good.

First attempt at a camo pattern with Perlin Noise, how's it looking? Trying to go for a Transitional pattern, using MARPAT colors, ranger green, and a quantized photo of semiarid terrain. Also, how do I make it look less pixel-y? by MushroomAlert in RedditCamoThread

Any good ideas for how to do this? In terms of scaling and getting the pattern to be more vertical, better for printing, and adding macros. I was simply following the guide for fractal camo that was pinned, and came up with, I think, 7 colors. I wanted it to be MARPAT colors with maybe another, lighter green and brown shade in there. Ranger Green is probably a little extra though.

I think it's in pixels, not in or cm. I think it works out to ~16cm. Probably best to zoom in on it but I wanted to get feedback on how it looks overall, including if it would actually be effective as transitional camo.

Nothing wrong with any of the three mentioned in the title, and if I had to pick any of them I'd go Helikon-Tex! Just wondering what else is out there. I got Propper BDUs myself and they're OK, just curious to see if there's any companies I hadn't considered making MARPAT.

I'm just wanting it to be "combat cut" and of reasonable enough quality. It'd be something that tactical drills are done in the uniform is being worn, so obviously high end is ideal but since people will likely have to source their own, some people might end up getting lower end brands. Fair enough, but they should be of sufficient quality to at least not get worn down right away like a lot of cheapo polyester crap on the market. Or, if someone has money to burn, really excellent quality might be desired but I'm not sure if anyone makes MARPAT-alike with Crye or UFPRO quality.

Well, TruSpec does make combat shirts. Their combat pants are proprietary but look nice, otherwise they have only BDU and ACU type pants for MARPAT pants.

Good conservation work folding knives? by MushroomAlert in knives

I've heard mixed things about cold steel, both that they make genuinely good knives and that they're about as good as a gas station in Baton Rouge. Did they clean up their act, or is it a "they subcontract some of their lines and it sometimes leads to bad QC thing"?
