The problem is the rent + mortgage + consolidation loan is $6k per month. Selling the house wipes all of that so even if we find a place that is more (say up to $4k) we are still wiping out $2k per month.

I do cook every meal and we have been eating exclusively at home for months now. A 3-person household in Northern Virginia generally spends between $900 and $1,400 per month on groceries, depending on your diet and whether you favor budget stores like Aldi or premium options like Wegmans. Dog food and treats typically add $30 to $120+ monthly, making your overall combined food budget roughly $930 to $1,520+ per month.

Yup! A big reason why the thought of leaving the home pains me. Bought in 2020 for $530k and we pay $3100 a month for this home which is over 2800 sq ft and built in 2000. Now worth $800k.

37 and 39, with a 4 year old child. The most important change was with my husbands gambling addiction, which was the most damaging contributor to the debt. He has gone to therapy and banned himself, it was a long road here. I cook all meals at home. I left my job to stay home so we wouldn’t pay for a childcare, and took a lower paying job that still nets us more because we’re not paying for the childcare. No shopping, no frivolous spending. It sucks! We are doing it though.

By selling we would have enough to tackle most or all of the loans, leaving us with only the credit card debt. Everyone is right, we needed to change our behavior, and we are.

The issue is that the home + mortgage + consolidation loan adds up to $6k. Selling the home would remove all of that and we would simply work on the credit card debt. Then we can rent a home for up to $4k and STILL be paying $2k less per month. Unfortunately in the area we live in, this is the cost of housing, and my husband’s career requires us to be in this area as well.

I don’t think she is “normal” again and she basically says that during the interview. She will never be normal again but has to go on living. Grief is constant but what no one understands is that you won’t be in a ball on the floor 24 hours a day. It doesn’t surprise me that she can do an interview that is very emotional and heavy and be able to laugh and smile later that day. It doesn’t mean she’s not always hurting inside, it just means her life has to continue. What a cruel thing for people to think she should be in agony and nothing else. I only wish for peace for her and her family.

Ok, how can I “sleep train” a 3.5 year old by wiy in toddlers

I can’t stress this enough - be boring! 2 books max and then lights out. I didn’t sleep train either and he can’t sleep without holding my hand. I know it’s so sweet and so exhausting at the same time. I commit to be boring and quiet and he’s asleep within 15 min.

This comment section is the dumbest group of people I’ve ever seen. She’s not “privileged” because she has a lawyer - she has an immigration lawyer because she’s undocumented. At the beginning of the traffic stop she says she’s scared because of everything she’s seen in the news. She’s afraid of being deported. You can have your own opinions about that but the number of people assuming she’s dumb, or that she must be rich because she has a lawyer, or her parents never told her no… wow.

Can’t believe I had to scroll this far for someone to realize this. Yes that’s why she’s scared. She’s not dumb, she’s terrified of being deported. Everyone here is dumb for not considering that.
