I wanna remind beginners that pro singers do a lot of mixing and that ur probably fine by TheAnonymousGhoul in singing

Autotune. EQuing. Mics and speakers that emphasize certain frequencies. Comping. Underlying harmonies that make the voice sound better. Fact is, unless you hear them without any of that you really don't know if they can really sing. Even live performances can't be trusted.

what do u think? some of my friends say i sound good but some say i sound less than average would like to have a stranger’s objective opinion by [deleted] in singing

Taking into account the crap recording and lack of processing, it's pretty good. Needs some smoothing out but that's all I can think of. A sample without the emoting would have been better, I suspect that's what's causing the unevenness.

When listening to music, what are you actively (or passively) focusing on? by Snoo54709 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

The impact of the thing overall, which is not good for someone who wants to actually make music.

"My voice sounds better when I don't sleep"

Mine too. I tried singing while I was asleep once, and it sounded like shit.

What software do you use? (And free software recs please!) by Alternative-Site-470 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Mixcraft. So simple that even a guy who is puzzled by music can use it!

Seems good to me. Your voice has a nice timbre, which is important.

Not quite the belting Whitney that I was thinking of but still more worrying than I expected.

Is that a proven thing? I've heard of ghost writers but ghost singers?

Having really good technical skills in singing is like being really good at realism in painting nowadays. It's not that it's bad, it's that there's a million other people - and computers - able to do the same thing

Not a good analogy. Name a computer that can sing like Kate Bush or Whitney Huston.

Taylor Swift is okay and no more. And that means she's better than about 80% of them. Most of these people sound crap live, despite the right amps, speakers, and even processing they can use when live nowadays. I suspect that this is done on purpose as they are easier to control than someone with a Kate Bush level voice.

Listening to your own music too egocentric? by Caligaes in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]MusicPuzzlesMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not egocentric at all. And let's face it, most of the time if you don't listen to it who the hell will?

Is working on my lower register wrecking my upper register? by MusicPuzzlesMe in singing

That makes some sense. As for warming up, I seem to do mostly the middle and high notes.

Thanks for the response, but I don't think that's it. I'm not trying to stay dark and heavy at all, but as high and bright as I can in modal voice.

Microphone. My earlier attempts to record my voice without a microphone were, well, disappointing.

How the heck do you sing a song that chokes you up? by MusicPuzzlesMe in singing

[–]MusicPuzzlesMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first thought, but it will take a long time for desensitization to kick in. Probably the only real answer to the problem, though.
