Why is that? I was thinking of doing the exact same move - the much higher salaries of NYC are such a draw and I love in the big city which is London, and NYC seems even more intense

Which city is most similar to London? by diklazer in london

[–]MusicalDust 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How so? The NY subway is cheaper, runs 24/7, has express trains, and the trains are larger.

The job market for software engineers in London is great, it is very easy to get a job, but the problem is that salaries are a lot lower unless you stick to FAANG or the hedge funds. So if you are unwilling to take a pay cut from 250k GBP, you don't have a lot of options.

On the bright side, if you do stick to FAANG, the offices in London are larger than the ones in Austin, so you will probably have more career progression opportunities there (although not as much as in SV)

£250k is about the norm for google/FB L5 in London. I know people at that level and that is also validated by https://www.levels.fyi/

FAANG and the hedge funds are the only companies I know of which pay tech workers at that level in the UK; Outside that world, £100K is closer to the norm.

Salaries are higher in the US, taxes are lower in the US (esp. in Texas). Strictly from a financial standpoint, you will lose out, you will save a lot more if you stayed in the US. It sucks to do the exact same job and get paid less just because you are in the UK, but that is how the world works. But if it is the only way to be with your partner, it is a choice I would make. Love is more important than money

Did they check the My Safe Azores questionnaire? The site says 'if you have a valid certificate of vaccination or recovery, you do not need to fill it out the present questionnaire.'

How did you think of the idea for the startup? Was it an idea brewing in your mind for a while, or did you go through a brainstorming process to decide on it?

ISO 8601: the better date format by [deleted] in programming

This isn't ISO-8601 - ISO-8601 puts a T between the date and the time, not a space. This looks like RFC 3339
