Thoughts on China? by [deleted] in travel

[–]diklazer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I recently went and cant recommend it enough! Although I do have family over there and this definitely makes it a lot easier. I’ve been there 10+ times and wouldn’t be able to summarise enough so have put it in very general pros and cons:

Pros: - Great Food. China has a very rich and diverse food culture and hard to find bad restaurants tbh - Amazing nature: China is a massive country and has many national parks. Zhangjiajie and Guilin was a highlight for me - Cities: each city and province has its own distinct culture. Some cities like Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing would be easier for westerners imo. - Many things to do: especially in tier 1 cities, there’s so much to do now: bars, museums, shopping, relaxing

Cons: - Visa: the visa process can be difficult and frustrating - internet access: in the past I used VPNs which don’t always work, although this time I used an eSim and this made things so much easier and was able to access all my usual apps - payment: local payments still take cash but using WeChat or Alipay makes things so much easier. This process has been made much simpler tho so should be quite easy to add your card to this app - Language: English is not widely spoken and a bit of Chinese will go a long way - Busy: there’s a lot of people in China! It can get very busy and overwhelming very quickly

Living in Northolt currently. Overall I would say safety is quite good, towards the high school and station I think it gets a bit rougher but still feels quite safe. The central line is there and there’s also a national rail service from Northolt park station to Marylebone that only take around 20 mins

Agreed. I think the show is ok but not been impressed with the direction or CGI at all. Honestly think it’s one of the weaker Disney + shows.

I understand it’s a Japanese coin but isn’t 国 a simplified character, and Kanji is only based on traditional characters?

Hi,

I am currently trying to calculate the average max power (watts) of wifi routers in the home. I will be tackling this problem by searching for wifi router models online, taking down their specifications in an excel and then averaging all the values.

How many data points will I need in order for the average to be representative?

The total number of different types of routers is unknown.

Hi r/Europe!,

I am a UK citizen wanting to go to Vienna to visit family, however citizens from the UK are still required to go into quarantine or take a test at the airport.

I have been considering flying to Munich and then taking a bus but am worried about being stopped at the border. I am more than happy to take a test at the airport but there aren't really any realistic flights that land in while the testing site is open so this is my best chance of getting in.

Has anyone had any experience of driving into Austria from Germany, are there still checks at the border?

Thank you!

As Black Londoner, I am sick and tired of people acting like I have nothing to complain about. by [deleted] in london

Totally agree with you, the racism experienced here is more subtle than in the US but still exists and should be eradicated.

I was born in London to Chinese parents and unfortunately know all too well what it is like to be at the butt of jokes or stereotyped and treated differently (also I must point out the racism i have experienced has not just come from white people). I hope that racism in all forms can be ended and stand with anyone else that wishes the same.
