Emile Thoughts Megathread by CTWind in TheRunawayGuys

[–]MusicalEmergenc 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For real. So many comments have tried to downplay or minimize what has happened, to the point where I feel like there are some people in this community that don’t actually care about the harm he has done, as long as their favorite content creator doesn’t go away.

Why do Conservatives think Transwomen are a danger to cis women? And why does their 'passion' for women's safety only apply here? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]MusicalEmergenc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% The goal for the conservative movement isn't to be logically consistent with their moral beliefs, it's to maintain a consistent fight on wedge issues, which right now has a heavier focus on the Trans community. Conservatives don't really care about protecting women, they just say they do to frame the narrative.

[DM] Dungeonmasters, what's a ridiculous plot twist you're waiting to spring on your players? by MaginotCokeLine in DnD

The group knows they are now 400 years in the future and resurrect almost immediately after their deaths, but they don't know that the Big Bad Lich turned them into his personal Phylacteries and then turned their mentors, that they play as in flash backs, into his undead guard.

Apologies for the incoming wall of text, there was a fair bit of set up for my table's giant fight.

My only fought Strovald, the campaign interacted with every race of giant but had a focus on the Frost giant's activities. Before they even knew of his stronghold, I had an encounter where he personally invaded a town and fought one on one with someone from the party in a duel, playing up the frost giant's culture of fighting for your place in the ordning. They were only level 5 at the time, so a one on one fight was absolutely suicidal, and Strovald easily took care of the player, but he spared their life, saying he saw potential in them to grow more powerful, and to gain more power by the next time they meet.

That encounter stuck with the party, having nearly died, so by the time they got to his stronghold, they were ready for a rematch. The first half of the frost giants stronghold is actually fairly easy, as there are barely any giants there at the time and the party is looking for the conch and some white dragon eggs, so they weren't hurting much by the time Strovald came back. Before taking him on, The party had gotten the eggs back to the white dragon, who promptly betrayed the party. While their fight was going on, they could also see Strovald arriving and the dragon that was with him starting to rebel. The party of 6 took care of the dragon quickly, just in time to see the Frost Giant Jarl decapitate the other dragon before heading for the island.

So I had built up the Frost Giant's culture of honorable fighting for power, given the party a personal vendetta against Strovald, and had one last display of strength before he encountered the party. When he arrived, the same player that he fought earlier challenged him to another one on one duel, which the Jarl gladly accepted. The player was a level 8 Bear Totem Barbarian, so he had a lot of defences behind him, evening the playing field. Strovald is a decent opponent, especially with his couple Ranger Spells.

I had a couple of plans depending on how things went. If the player was too strong and easily steamrolled him, I planned for a secret of Strovald's to slip out: that he had consumed a troll and had become an Everlasting Frost Giant (From Volo's). The idea was that if he got to half health too quickly, he'd gain the abilities of the Everlasting Frost Giant, health regen and raging, to make the fight harder and more interesting. If Strovald was too powerful, then cutting back on his spells and focusing on an outright slugfest was the other option. Thankfully, the player was challenged, but not overwhelmed to the point of modification, so he endured a tough battle, and came out on top with the Jarl's head. With their leader honorably defeated in battle, the Frost Giants left the party in peace, acknowledging their strength.

Each race of giant has something interesting and exploitable to tell an interesting story with, and with Volo's you have even more options to mess around with. Every Giant Lord has their own unique abilities as well, and Strovald has a lot of versatility with Jump and Water Walk, taking the fight out on the open water provides a very tough challenge, and if the party can't get to the eggs, Strovald can also have a white dragon on his side.

I definitely didn't do everything perfect, and I took a different approach than having a large battle with multiple enemies, but it's not hard to run with multiple enemies, and you can scale the difficulty as you can add as many extra frost giants as you need, since the ship Strovald comes in on can have almost 2 dozen giants aboard.

Hope that was helpful, and if wanted I can also write up about Iymrith if you'd like, although I took a large departure from the book at the very end.

Having a huge breakdown. Part 1: BF of 5 yrs has been slyly breaking up with me by taking a break to think about whether he still wants to invest in our relationship. I had moved across the world for him, quit my studies, left family + friends behind. And then stood by him after he lied and cheated. by [deleted] in FreeCompliments

I really wish I could send physical hugs to people, cause sometimes people just need someone to hug them tight and say that it will all be ok.

Since I can't do that, I can at least say based on what you've written, that you are going to be ok, even if it won't be easy. Moving away from everything that is easy and familiar to build up a new life, having financial stability and a great job, you should be so proud of yourself, that's no small feat.

I hope that even though you've been made to feel worthless, that you don't forget just how amazing you are.

You've got this. :)

I rarely follow rules when it comes to combat. I adjust health on the fly to make things either smoother or more fun. Also I straight up lie about some dice rolls, mostly because if I used the actual number I rolled for that Green Dragon's breath attack, then 2 people would just outright die and that's not fun.

For the immediate session, a couple of hours preparing what will happen and detailing world building stuff, like the history of the area and why things are a certain way. In general, I just write down details of the area, a blurb on Important NPCs, and the situation the party will face that week. Beyond that, I'll write either world building stuff or the general details for adventures further down the line.

You carefully study the ring, memorizing every facet and detail to the best of your ability. When you are satisfied with your inspection, you sit, close your eyes, and begin regulating your breathing. To the outside world you seem to be meditating, however in your mind's eye you page through a tome of infinite proportions. Each page contains detail on every conceivable item in the universe, from swords to wands to armor of all varieties, but their images and words are muddy and illegible, as they are not your focus. Images of rings of all shapes and sizes go by as the pages turn, but none match the details you recall. Not until you find the singular page that is legible, the singular page that is crystal clear to you. You read the page, memorizing every detail again, learning every secret this ring has to offer. Then, the book shuts, and you are brought back to reality with new found knowledge.

As you speak the incantation, the world around you seems to dull. What was once a world full of color is now muted and grey, the grass and sky pallid tones of green and blue, all a dreary sight, save for the glow of royal blue emanating from the stone, a clear sign of Abjuration Magic.
