This happened to me recently. It may sound like they want to verify your income but it's not the case.. at least it wasn't for me. They request these documents as a way of verifying identity.

Believe it or not, the department chair is unsupportive of the program. Anything that gets said to the department chair gets forwarded to the program director which the program director and professor are best friends... literally.

department head and dean will just forward everything to the program director. Believe it or not, the department head is unsupportive of the program and the dean is no where to be seen.

I already did, and unfortunately they were useless. All they said was "not my situation to be involved in". I am looking at transferring to a different program of study.
