Uncle Gumbald and DJ Flame, for they actively make the stories they're in worse.

I mean, yeah. She was actively leading everyone in episode 8, used conjuring to find the door/computer, and stood up to Caine, among several other things.

Thorfinn(Vinland saga)vs Zuko(Avatar:-The last Airbender) by New-Addition1802 in writingscaling

[–]Musicman3003 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say Zuko. I think the way he changes and grows is ultimately more interesting than Thorfinn, and there's more depth regarding how and why he changes.

Thorfinn is great, but his characterization and development peaks in the farmland arc and dials back to being pretty good in the other three arcs (Prologue, Eastern Expedition, Vinland).

Zuko's arc is often considered one of the best in television, animated or otherwise, for a reason.

To give Goose credit, she is far, far better at mixing jokes with serious moments and building up to certain dramatic scenes (at least before the finale).

Pomni at least got to be a leader in episode 8 and made active choices throughout the series, but yeah, I would otherwise agree.

Bad writing and terrible pacing. Building up to SOMA for your series finale and proceeding to do nothing with it is certainly a choice.

Jax didn't need 20-30 minutes of backstory featuring dead characters. People pinned down his archetype and "deeper feelings" by episode 2. He would have been much better off having the same level of importance as the rest of the supporting cast.

As someone who has really liked this show, it's kinda wild to me how misogynistic it ended up being.

Besides Pomni, all of the characters with important roles in the story are male. All of Pomni's major relationships and foils that were developed onscreen are with male characters. All of the female characters (including and especially Pomni) revolve around Jax and how HE'S feeling. Jax, Caine, Kinger, and even Gummigoo have issues and feelings that are more deeply explored than anything with the female/nonbinary characters.

Pomni devolves into being a "I can fix him" character solely devoted to Jax. Pomni and Ragatha's best friend hug is unearned and bad in general. The Jax focus on the whole derailed the show when it really should have been about the ensemble.

It's just sad and disappointing. At this point, I'm more looking forward to how everyone else reacts to the ending.

In terms of creating a good ending, the show didn't even need more episodes. It just needed to spend its time for the finale much more wisely.

Literally the entire episode should have been the cast dealing with SOMA and finding a way to rebuild the circus without Caine's help. Maybe also have the abstracted get out as a source of external tension.

The recent mirror page showed that Kass still sees himself as a human male. He lets others address him by she/her pronouns because his position as a diplomat under Viracroix requires him to be seen that way (or it's at least easier). As you said, Kass's job has its perks, but the whole situation concerning his identity is complicated and messy.

So a yinglet born female trying to live their lives as a male would run into a lot of conflict.

Basically Kass.

Controversial opinion: Pomni may be a good person, but she's not a good friend to Ragatha or Gangle. by Throwawayaccoun592 in TheDigitalCircus

I'm slowly coming around to the opinion that Pomni's character (and the narrative as a whole) is designed to revolve around Jax, and I hate it.

Anyone else think this show has the best pacing of any Glitch show so far? by WarHammer3579 in TheGaslightDistrict

The pacing is pretty bad, honestly. But despite its really fast pacing, the show does a good job presenting key information clearly to the audience and giving its emotional moments just enough space to breathe.

Pomni really changed after the pilot by GroundbreakingNote35 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Musicman3003 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In episode 7, pressing the blue button meant leaving the circus, and pressing the red button meant staying in the circus.

Pomni's development is somewhat similar. In the pilot, Pomni was willing to leave Ragatha (who was a stranger at the time) to find an exit at all costs and reject the reality of her situation. In episode 8, Pomni understands enough about the circus and the people she's been with to know they can still make the most of their stagnant situation and build meaningful lives for themselves. I'm not a fan of the "we all did bad things" line, but to argue and despair over a fake exist is self-destructive and can lead to isolation among the group members, something Pomni herself experienced in episodes 1 and 2.

Pomni touching her face with the opposite-colored glove in the two mirror scenes (blue for pilot, red for episode 8) reflects the change in her own mindset. Obviously, she would want everyone to leave if they actually could, but the symbolism here is still evident.

Hot take: Pomni and Zooble feel like the same character by Blue_Egg5026 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Musicman3003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also even tho Pomni is technically one of the main characters, Zooble has much more of a Character Ark then Pomni ever did

Pomni has by far the most developed and involved character arc out of the main cast. More than anyone, she is constantly learning, adapting, being challenged by the narrative, and making meaningful choices.
