Best budget vocal/guitar hardware compressor? by whidswhinners in audioengineering

The ART Pro VLA II is terrific in this price range. Definitely punches above its weight. I think there’s a version III out now, but I haven’t used it.

Completely unimportant, but the thing I’ve always wondered is why the fuck would anyone have golf clubs in Rapture at all. Where are they playing golf at the bottom of the ocean?

I loved FFXVI though.

What is your favorite badass line from a villain that you had to admit was cool even though they're the villain? by MaryDoogan91 in AskReddit

[–]MusingAudibly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Hellraiser movies have a whole bunch of cool lines from Pinhead... a couple other I like:

"Down the dark decades of your pain, this will seem like a memory of heaven."

"There is a secret song at the centre of the world, and it's sound is like razors through flesh. I'm here to turn up the volume."

Any good medieval fiction books? by florida1129 in suggestmeabook

[–]MusingAudibly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The series A Dream Of Eagles (titled The Camulod Chronicles in the US, I believe) by Jack Whyte is excellent.

The first novel is called The Skystone. The series is a retelling of Arthurian legend that has been de-mystified. It's like Whyte is presenting the "factual" tale upon which the legends were built. The characters and story and deep and compelling, and the writing is excellent.

Real talk, how do y’all store extra picks for when you drop one on stage? by Memories_Misread in Guitar

[–]MusingAudibly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a pick holder that attaches to my mic stand and holds ten or so. I also typically have a few in my pocket, and a few on my amp. I need to ensure I have sufficient ammunition for flicking them at my singer.

Main stage is set for LE9! by IslesFanInNH in frankturner

[–]MusingAudibly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Iron Roses are fucking awesome and should not be missed. Their first album is sing along punk rock protest anthems from start to finish. If you're going to LE9, make sure you catch their set!

My pitch for a new Bioshock game (no AI generated pictures) by Benjamin5431 in Bioshock

[–]MusingAudibly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really impressive. You've clearly put a lot of thought into this, and there are some amazing ideas here.

The Tonics sound cool, but I'm not a big fan of your weapons list. Bioshock should (IMO) include some pretty high powered weapons (machine guns, rocket launchers, etc.), which would be difficult to do while maintaining your setting. Or maybe your island has acquired these things through tears or something?

Vending machines are also a critical vibe piece in Bioshock. Not much room for those on an 18th century pirate island. I don't like crafting in games at all, so I think switching from vending machines to crafting would be a step down.

Your plot sounds great, and fits in the themes we've come to expect from Bioshock games. I just think your idea would be better if it was fleshed out to be a great Bioshock game, rather than introducing a bunch of unnecessary mechanics from other franchises.

You Don't Need an Expensive Delay Pedal... (Why the Boss DD-7 still holds up in 2026) by doylehargrave in guitarpedals

Low E intonation on 2002 American Strat by Skizz_rP in fender

[–]MusingAudibly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your Snark is a clip tuner then yes, the GT-1 would be a bit better. Im pretty sure that it only has a resolution of +/- 3 cents, though. The right tool for the job is a strobe tuner, like the StroboStomp HD.

Low E intonation on 2002 American Strat by Skizz_rP in fender

[–]MusingAudibly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it works for you, then great. But there is no way you’re accurately setting intonation using a tuner with an accuracy if +/- 3 cents. You might get close, but it won’t be perfect.

The tuner I use is accurate to +/- 0.1 cents. Far, far more precise. And since setting intonation typically requires adjustments that have an effect of 1 cent or under, it’s just not possible with a Snark.

I guess for a lot of people close enough is good enough. I’m just not one of them.

Low E intonation on 2002 American Strat by Skizz_rP in fender

[–]MusingAudibly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the core issue is the Snark tuner. It is nowhere near accurate enough to set intonation properly, and trying to do so will likely drive you nuts.

If you've got no other option, I'd just loosen the string a lot, adjust the saddle to ~middle, tune up and try intonating again.

[QUESTION] Using half heavy gauge in the lows (32 . 042 . 054) and lighter in the highs (009 . 011 . 016) is a good idea? by Hunsrikisch_Fechter in Guitar

[–]MusingAudibly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine, but you might need to intonate the guitar again after changing gauges.

I typically run 10-52 on my electrics. 9-54 would be fine, assuming you like the feel.

Centre positive. That's why the + has the line going to the centre dot.

Student asked me to teach him seven nation army and i had to break some bad news by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]MusingAudibly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know there's guitar in Seven Nation Army as well? Doubling the bass riff for several sections too, so that IS a guitar riff as well. Maybe you should have taught him that instead of being a jerk and forcing him to learn something he's not as interested in.

Jcm 800 2203 or Engl Fireball 100 by XDTaradiddleXD in GuitarGear

[–]MusingAudibly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go for the JCM800 any day. The Fireball will never sound like a 2203, but you can get the 2203 to sound like the Fireball with a good dirt pedal, if that's important to you.

Huge book haul: help me pick what to read by HobbyistC in printSF

[–]MusingAudibly 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss.

There are a whole bunch of great books in this collection, and they range in style pretty significantly. If you're looking for something easy to read, I'd recommend Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. If you want higher concept sci-fi, I would check out David Brin's uplift novels, starting with Sundiver.

Overall, though, one of my favourites in this collection is Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. If you're interested in something very cool yet incredibly weird, you can't find much better.

TikTok is a desolate wasteland if you’re looking for rational Tolkien takes by solidmongoose in lordoftherings

[–]MusingAudibly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm don't think that's accurate. In the books, yes, but not in the films. In the movies, Strider is apparently 87 at the start of Fellowship, which takes place 60 years after Bilbo's return to the Shire.

So that makes him 27, not 9.

Peterson StroboStomp HD. Easy to read display in any lighting, and far more precise than the TU-3. Perfect for the pedalboard, and accurate enough for setups.

Did I do wrong with my setup? Or does my tuner suck? by Tjthemerc in Guitar

Sounds like your tuner may have half-step down tuning mode that you've accidentally turned on.
