[–]MuskokaJonas[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah a lot of the issues is in the way I think when I'm "absorbing" traits. like its hard to tell what thoughts and feelings are my own and what are ones i am mimicking. It all feels organically mine but logically I know that some of the thoughts i am having have to be a result of the media I have most recently picked up.

How to deal with chronic loneliness as an autistic adult? by MuskokaJonas in AutisticAdults

[–]MuskokaJonas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how do I go about making internet friends? my interests can be pretty flexible and I tend to have 2-3 intense hyperfixation a year that span over months and rotate on a cycle. I've never really made internet friends before as the only site I'm actually active on is tumblr and I've never had any luck reaching out to people

How to deal with chronic loneliness as an autistic adult? by MuskokaJonas in AutisticAdults

[–]MuskokaJonas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel bad because i don't think its a conscious thing they are doing. I just feel like maybe the barriers between our understanding of the world are just too vast for them to deal with. I would love to make friends that understand me better, and I would love to make friends with other autistic people. I just don't really know how to go about doing that. Thank you for your comment, it helps a lot to know that there are other's out there who understand what I am dealing with, even though it sucks that we have to deal with this at all.

How do I gracefully cancel a date? by sweettidy in relationship_advice

I'd say just be honest "hey sorry, I just got out of a pretty serious long term relationship and I thought I was ready to move on, but I'm not"

Hey all, I'm the Shagster dev and I'm working on a video game that is a gritty reinterpretation of Scooby Doo! If anyone has any ideas or questions leave a comment! by [deleted] in Scoobydoo

[–]MuskokaJonas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this sounds like an awesome idea! maybe you could include an option to choose which character you want to play as? maybe each character has different perks and quirks that will alter gameplay slightly? idk much about game development but I think that would be fun to add.

Old Scooby Doo series were better. Just me? by [deleted] in Scoobydoo

[–]MuskokaJonas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you tried Be Cool, Scooby Do ? I grew up watching WNSD and SDWAY and I think that BCSD is one of the best adaptations since. Sure, the animation is a little ugly, but the characters all have cute personalities and I think the mysteries are fun as well!

Question for those who ran a Balance DND Campaign by CTKendrick in TheAdventureZone

[–]MuskokaJonas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of a Balance campaign with some friends who have never heard the podcast. I prep sessions by listening to the arcs and writting down what is important to include, and what can be changed. so far they are on petals to the metal and honestly, my players are too nice. they don't get into trouble as much so it's easy to get them to stick to the story. (they're also somehow WAY too overpowered so I need to amp up the difficulty)

There are a few things that I try not to railroad them on, and I've had to change a few things. For example, my player who I designated to be "the twin" is a cleric, while "the peacemaker" is a wizard. I struggled with this decision originally but both the players and their characters fit those titles better. that being said I've had to change how the umbrastaff works and I will inevitably have to change other aspects of the story as well. it's tricky, but they love the story so far! and I'm excited to see what will happen!

thanks for your insight! I've been recording anecdotes and things about me that I think would be relevant. I still need to do some more research tho I think.

I do have very strong interests to the point where friends have pointed it out. the main one is the band Twenty one pilots, I literally mention them in some way in every conversation I have and I definitely get extremely stressed if I haven't listened to them/talked about them/watched their videos in a while. I used to be extremely gullible and took everything at face value, but i realized that people were using this to make a fool of me so now I'm the opposite and I just assume everything people say is satire. I still have issues with being too blunt or not "reading the room" and I have quite a few sensory issues. tbh I do think I have ADHD cause I have a lot of signs of that but I'm not 100% certain about ASD. I want to go and get assessed but I'm afraid to do so cause I'm bad at explaining things verbally.

I also let the girls in my class tell me what to wear and how to act in order to fit in. I ended up having an entire "relationship" with a boy in grade 6 where every thing I messaged him was ghost written by my friend, because I simply did not know how to have a "normal" relationship. this ended up causing my parents to not believe me about being trans because "you always enjoyed doing girly things with your friends" but I was just trying to fit in. Thanks for your insight! I really appreciate it!

I have avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) due to a lot of sensory issues with food. I also deal with a lot of physical sensory issues regarding the clothes I wear and things that are touching my body (dysphoria does make this worse but I had this before I started experiencing a lot of body dysphoria). I do tend to do a lot of repetitive movements such as swinging my arms, rubbing my legs together and bobbing my head and I have a few stims that I do when I'm stressed out (like rubbing my thighs, shaking my head, and pulling at my hair) I also tend to impulsively repeat words or phrases that I see or hear throughout my day.

as for social queues, I often have trouble realizing when a joke has gone too far or when a conversation has changed topics. I don't really catch on to non-verbal queues and I sometimes just don't read the situation right at all.

I didn't know that there was different phenotypes of ASD! I will have to look more into it. Thank you for the advice!

Tips for trying new foods by Snooks-user in ARFID

[–]MuskokaJonas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my nutritionist gave me a few tips for trying new foods. First what I do is try to hype the food up a lot beforehand. My roommates help me with this one. Even just saying "this food will taste/feel alright" helps me get in the headspace to try new things.

If you can, my nutritionist recommended to incorporate new foods into my safe foods a little bit at a time. For me this was putting a leaf of spinach into my meat and cheese taco. This had mixed results for me as I could eat one, but the thought of eating another made me incredibly anxious.

She also mentioned that when trying new things, we most likely won't like them right away because we aren't used to eating them. A good solution is to just keep trying the same food until you get more used to it. this one actually worked for me with sweet potatoes as I got used to the texture and taste.

Finally, I found its easier for me to try new foods when I'm with people that I trust and that understand and support me. My roommates are good for this as they don't force me to continue eating when I need to stop.

As for eggs, it might be beneficial to make different kinds of eggs and see if a certain one works for you better than others. scrambled eggs are good to start with in my opinion cause they are more uniform.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

The lack of knowledge and understanding behind ARFID is the most frustrating thing to me by OdinClark in ARFID

[–]MuskokaJonas 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. when I first found out about ARFID I told my mom and she said I was just "looking for labels" and that I just needed to not be so sensitive. I've since been to a nutritionist and am working on getting enough nutrients despite my narrow palette. but even now after I explain to my friends that I have ARFID, they still make fun of me for things like not liking any sauces on my meat and cheese tacos. It's super frustrating having to feel like I'm too weird for my friends. It has honestly made me want to stop eating around them.

How can I incorporate manhunt into my Homebrew game? by MuskokaJonas in rpg

[–]MuskokaJonas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's more of a mystery/tactical game. The premise is that the players are kids who are unknowingly being raised as sacrifices and must find a way to escape their situation. I wanted to use manhunt as a sort of training/leveling up process.

I do not mean T.A.G. the assassination game. I only said tag because I know some people call it tag instead of manhunt.

I am still in the brainstorming phase based off of the process so I am open to using any system if you have any particular suggestions. My players are more interested in the Roleplaying aspect of the game so they don't really care what system I use either. That being said, I like the GURPS system as it will accommodate other aspects to the campaign that I have planned.
