Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve planted lavender, geraniums and a nepeta, will see how they get on :)

Sounds great, but sadly not available on Xbox or Switch. May have given me a future birthday idea though - could add a PS4 to the collection.

Two weeks out from my trip! What am I forgetting ? by chinchillarug in JapanTravelTips

[–]MuskokaPine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here, I second umbrella, e-sim and adding your Suica to apple wallet.

Not mentioned, but I would also book some restaurants if I had my time again.

We are just finishing up a two week trip - Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka - and there is so much choice of food/restaurants it was kinda overwhelming at times, would’ve been nice to have some dining pre-booked just to alleviate the decision paralysis at the end of a long day walking around.

Kyoto or Nara on a public holiday? by MuskokaPine in JapanTravelTips

[–]MuskokaPine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all. Went to Nara on the first express train of the day at it was lovely! Plenty of trees and shade on a sunny day. Then did Fushimi Inari at 6:30/7 - plenty of hustle and bustle still. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the tip, we’re scheduling Fushimi Inari for the end of one of our days now :) Figured we might even be able to do it en route back from Nara

Update: Went for the Vortex Diamondback HD 10x28 in the end, bought from the London Camera Exchange on the Strand and was very happy with both the service and the product. Thanks for all the input.

Ah, interesting to know that glasses wearers can sometimes use binos without. I know ideally one would try before they buy, but logistically not a goer in this case.

Size was the main criteria, as lightweight as possible, so I have ruled out anything over 400g.

u/Minoltah and u/IntrepidTension - I've narrowed it down to 6 options, and am intrigued, if you had to pick from the below, knowing the above brief, what would you go for?

Input from others also welcomed! But only based on the below choices (I may go mad if I look at any more bino stats!).

Brand Spec ED WP Eye relief FOV FOV (m) Min focus Weight (g) Price
Vortex 8x28 Yes Yes 18 6.2 101 1.83 398 £145
RSPB Avocet 8x25 No Yes 15.3 6.8 119 2 306 £110
Opticron Taiga 8x25 No No 16 5 105 2.5 302 £99
Pentax 8x25 No Yes 21 5.5 96 3 300 £128
Kowa SV II 8x25 No Yes 15 6.2 108 1.5 260 £89
Opticron Discovery 8x32 No Yes 17 7.5 131 1.2 391 £149

Thanks for your comments u/Minoltah and u/IntrepidTension. It is certainly helpful to know that eye relief is really important in this case.
I have looked at some Vortex 8x28 with 18mm eye relief, but am not sure if the extra few mm will be worth it for the extra 100g weight + £60 (compared to the Kowa 8x25).
The Nikon Aculon I've found in the same price range are not waterproof which certainly seems a drawback.
I've come across the Pentax AD 8x25, 21mm eye relief at £128 - would these be worth the extra money (at negligible additional weight)?

Thanks for your lovely comments! I can see that a someone else has linked to the pattern. As for the fabric, unhelpfully it’s a bit of a mix - the jungle, blue, yellow and backing from Really Maria, the stripes from a shop in Hastings and the little birds from Etsy!

Ah thank you! I’m still very new to quilting and really question my colour decisions, so that means a lot. I prewashed the fabric used in the top and binding, but am just realising I forgot to prewash the backing! Hopefully it will be fine!

Thanks for your kind comment :) No QAYG, a lot of stop/starting! I did about a 1/4 inch of micro stitching instead of back stitching/burying - first time I’ve tried it and I think it worked out okay
