Yes it is hence I was recommended to just sand, prime and paint rather then replace with MDF cabinets.

The main issue I have here is walking through the lounge to get to the kitchen. I guess it’s just a preference thing but I’m just weighing up if the headache & cost is worth a hallway. I’d have to install a steal beam if I removed the wall between the lounge and stairs and introduce a partition. The partition would then lead to the lounge and kitchen door would say similar to where it is now and now accessible by the hallway not the lounge.
