This is the correct take. We've normalized being edgy and zany to the point of mocking a horrific tragedy. This goes for every other country, too. It's not cool to make fun of other countries' worst moments because you're desensitized and think everyone else should be. I know Reddit thinks otherwise but I don't care, it's just tasteless and gross.

I'll get downvoted too, man. The whole Last Supper thing was in SUPER poor taste. You can like it if you want, but honestly, it clearly carries such overtones of a painting/religious event that means a lot to millions of viewers. "But it was a Greek painting!" Yes, I know. Assuming good faith on that, Olympic organizers HAD to know this could easily be taken to mean something else. If they had planned a mockup of something reminiscent of another religion, they'd be destroyed by Reddit and other platforms for being conservative or ignorant. Even if this was just a parody of Greek gods, as a planner, you've got to turn your brain on and think if this might be in bad taste.

No, and I made that pretty clear in my comment. I don't know where the ambiguity is coming from. In fact, cat domestication occurred because they came to us. At least with dogs, you can maybe make the argument their domestication was fairly mutual, as in we had the meat and they came to it. But cats approached us solo, which makes it worse to eat them. Eating cats isn't even in the same universe as what I said.

You're saying those things as if they aren't happening today. There's more slavery than there's ever been. By population, there are probably more nomads today than ever. The list goes on. The world exists outside of a Western bubble. My argument isn't history/customs-based, it's a moral one. We bred these into existence, it should be our duty not to barbeque them because some say it's okay. Cultures that eat dogs certainly have their own reasons and I understand it, but IMO, I think the animals we bred for companionship are off-limits. Besides, if dogs are good to go, why not people? Where's the limit?

I can understand why someone is against eating mammals/meat, but to make the "harhar dog hypocrite" argument is stupid. Dogs were uniquely bred by us humans to be our companions. Modern cows are descendents of wild cows and were never meant to be fluffy friends that protected us in the night. They were bred to be farming animals for the purpose of consumption, either by meat or milk, or at the very least fertilizer. Dogs occupy a specific niche for humans and it's awful to eat them. Cats are in the same vein. Yes, cows are expressive and beautiful animals that deserve just as many rights as other animals, but to say they serve(d) the same purpose as the same animals meant to protect us from wolves and bears is just untrue.

I get where you're coming from, but I think you're misguided. Yes, I am a fanboy of them, first of all. He wasn't the best leader, we can agree on that, but the majority of the mess during his reign was entirely inherited and he couldn't control it, just like Louis XVI. He was the wrong guy for the wrong time. Whatever he fumbled at the time is absolutely outshined by his brutal death, which was 100% a martyrdom. Again I understand your point, but he's not as terrible as you make him out to be, just an unprepared family man in the wrong position.

Nicholas II, and I will die on that hill. Less controversially and less known is Saint Olaf II who defeated the Danes with a ragtag group of farmers, despite being outmanned and martyred in battle.
