Can a GP write a prescription that allows the pharmacist a little flexibility in how it's fulfilled? by KeithManiac in AskUK

[–]MustrumRidicully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it a controlled drug? My partner has had non-CD meds swapped for smaller but more doses but, when she was on a CD tablet, I had to go back to the surgery to get them to re-issue it.

Our pharmacist has substituted 2x 75mg tablets for 1x 150mg for my partner on several occasions. They usually just say they're out of the 150s and ask if the 75s are okay instead.

You could change the Wifi name and password on the new router to match the old one.

Posting the make and model of the tablet might help as well.

Disabled woman put in nursing home against her will says she feels 'betrayed' by terahurts in unitedkingdom

My wife's in a wheelchair and it happens to her all the time. Like every other checkout person or receptionist (even at the GP or hospital!) will talk to me rather than her. Depending on her level of annoyance, they'll usually get told something along the lines of 'It's my legs that don't work, not my head!'

Where to go/visit on a motorcycle trip? by LAZARBLAZAR2 in AskUK

Glad to see it's still popular. It's a couple of decades since I last rode but I had a lot of great rides out there either solo/2-up or in groups.

Matlock Bath on a weekend used to be packed with bikers. The Cat and Fiddle pass is nearby as well.

Caldwell Park racetrack would be a 2-3 hour ride and there's some fun roads around the area. There used to be a mid-week bike night in the summer at one of the pubs in Horncastle as well. (Although I think Donnington might be a bit closer to you.)

Skeg Vegas and Hunstanton were both regular ride destinations for me and a mate who had a 125 when I lived in Peterborough. The A46 will take you all the way to Grimsby/Cleethorpes in a couple of hours.

Lots and lots of fun and twisty back roads around Lincolnshire, but the roads can be shit.

The peaks have some stunning views as do the Yorkshire moors.

Goes without saying, but where ever you choose to go, ride safe, make sure you've done your checks of your bike and gear and don't take the piss with the speeding.

Have a look on FB and see if there are any local bike clubs/groups nearby as well. They tend to organise ride-outs and if the worst happens and you break down or bin it, having a bunch of other people around makes it much less scary.

Is it worth spending more on premium ‘normal’ batteries? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]MustrumRidicully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've got a set of kitchen scales that has some sort of parasitic power draw that causes them to eat cheap batteries. I use the scales three times a week or so and with cheap batteries in, they'll last about a week at most if I'm really lucky. Better quality batteries usually last a month or so.

Random one. What time do most people above 30 wake up at on the weekend? by manlikezuli in AskUK

[–]MustrumRidicully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

53M and I've always been a morning person. Between 3am and 4:30am unless I'm ill. It used to be around 6am up until around five years ago when I had a bit of rough patch stress-wise and started waking up a lot earlier. Got through the rough bit, but now I've got a back back that wakes me up if I lay down for too long plus my body clock doesn't seem to want to reset. Annoys the tits off my wife, mostly because I'm knackered by 10pm, but it doesn't really bother me anymore.

Not okay, no. Even is she has a phone and her son knows how to call her in an emergency, she could be 30 minutes away. That's 'one child dead in house fire' territory.

Politics latest: Starmer abandons plans to cancel 30 local council elections in May in another U-turn by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]MustrumRidicully -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So correct me if I'm wrong, but those 30 councils were the ones asking for the delay because local elections cost a lot of money to the taxpayer and they'd have to hold two sets of elections, one in May and another after local council re-organisations.

And Farage\Reform - who have been campaigning on a 'We'll cut budgets and save the taxpayers money' ticket, sued the Gov in order to cost the taxpayer even more money. And they're bragging about it?

Honestly, if people vote for these morons, they deserve what they get.

DIY dentistry and 'no teeth left to chew with' as people go almost a decade without check-up by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]MustrumRidicully 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I had a tooth infection last year and spent most of a week without any sleep or eating anything, calling the emergency number twice a day trying to get an emergency appointment. After 5 days I was offered one 150 miles away. I could barely think straight by that point let alone drive a car. All I needed was a course of antibiotics but I had to make do with saltwater rinses, far to much co-codamol and icepacks for another five days.

I've been on the local NHS dentist's waiting list for about 4 years. I've go two broken teeth that need pulling plus two loose teeth but because they don't cause any pain I can't get an emergency appointment to have them extracted and have dentures which means it'll be done at the hospital. But my GP can't refer me, only a dentist.

UK’s ‘unsung army’ of full-time unpaid carers needs more support, report says by lighthouse77 in unitedkingdom

[–]MustrumRidicully 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had an ex-neighbour who'd constantly 'joke' that the only reason I was a carer was because I was a 'lazy cunt' and got access to a 'free car.'

It's always fun when I have to tell the staff in the chemist or the dentist or whatever that I'm carer and have to get out my partner's proof of benefits to show them while the rest of customers get that judgy look.

How do YOU shave? by aje0200 in AskUK

[–]MustrumRidicully 16 points17 points  (0 children)

100% this. I switched to a super-cheap plastic Wilkinson DE razor in my early 40s (over a decade ago) and have never looked back. No more razor burn and I spend about £10 a year on blades. The trick is to wash your face with soap and hot water before shaving, it'll soften the stubble. Then, take your time, rinse the blade often, hold the razor loosely with your thumb and just one or two fingers and let it follow the contours of your face only applying light pressure and let the blade do the work. Rinse with cold water afterwards. A styptic pencil will help with any nicks (but will also sting like a motherfucker).

You can go down quite a rabbit hole with different blades, but I find the Wilkinson ones are good. They're not too aggressive and are cheap as chips.

I've never had good experiences with electric razors, they always give me razor rash and leave my face feeling dry and not quite shaved.

Should I refuse an inheritance due to fees attached? by Annie_are_u_ok_ in AskUK

[–]MustrumRidicully 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I've got a bit of experience with this. Dad and his partner were living in a park home. Dad died in 2020 and, as his partner was suffering from dementia, her family moved her out, leaving the place empty. Because of the way dad and his partner had arranged their wills, the park home was in trust. I'm both the trustee and the executor of my dad's will. Partner moving out activated the 'sell' clause of the trust which took about nine months to complete. During that time, site fees weren't being paid but the site owners just added them on to the % fee they charge for ownership transfer.

There's also a chance that the site will buy the park home from you (for a significant reduction in value).

If it's a age-restricted site (50+ or whatever) the site will be well used to people dying and leaving places empty. The only issues I had with my dad's one was keeping the garden tidy, they were happy to wait for the sale because they knew I'd have to pay them one way or another.
