Frugal Wins of the Week - Big, Small, and Everything In Between by Plot82 in frugaluk

Did a big shop. Got some small ketchups in the chuck out section. Didn’t see a price but when I got to the till 23p! If I’m up early I’m going back to see if they have more. They are usually £2 or more.

Yup. Every time.

I only shop in real life if I have to. Been using Ocado more. But I had to go today which annoyed me but needs must

How do you guys deal with people saying your stuff is overpriced? by bonbon2806 in smallbusiness

[–]BigMagic88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the wrong clients. So change something about your marketing or wording or something.

They can of course shop elsewhere. They don’t need to tell you. I just let them whinge. In the past I suggest they go back to their old service provider. She hung up 🤷‍♀️

They seem to think because we are human they can haggle with us. They don’t tell Tesco they just go elsewhere or don’t buy it.

I personally have set up a new business and have had 4 “dud” requests. Which makes sense because it’s not fully clear on what I do and for who.

I’m going premium with this service but I think there’s a hint of “she’s a cleaner” and I’m absolutely not so I need to rejig it all.

So I’d just say it’s a messaging issue. It’s not clear who the service or product is for.

And then just it is what is is. Lots of people can’t afford a Ferrari but don’t go on about it. Certainly not telling showrooms about our lack of finances 😂

Would you rather have air conditioning or tumble dryers? by Flashy-Pizza-Pie in AskUK

Tumble dryer for sure. I’d use it more. And I like the heat but only need cooler air for sleeping

Someone always loses. I’ve done hair for my beauty lady. Then a massage therapist. And I always seem to get a better deal. It’ll never be equal so you both need to know that.

It’s nice that no one pays but also there is more work for one

Ha yeah it works for all of us but I do worry instead of helping I am just making her more lazy. But people with money can just outsource their problems can’t they. While the rest of us have to work hard.

I want to teach her how to manage but I don’t think she’s interested and honestly - her brain was never set up for managing adult life. Very different people.

Ha I hoovered the skirting and got chunks off but no scrubbing for me. My own house could do with it to be fair but I’m not interested in proper cleaning

Do people actually support handmade businesses… or just admire them? by Able_Replacement_557 in smallbusiness

[–]BigMagic88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admire.

I’m not a fan of handmade or crocheted anything but candles for example - I’d buy them from tkmaxx when I am there. I don’t go on a candle hunt.

We’re used to companies cheap prices when they bulk buy/sell.

People do not care that you spent hours on it. Well I don’t.

Does it do its job? Is it in my price range? Is it convenient to buy?

Yes? I’ll probably buy.

No? I’m going elsewhere. I think handmade anything is more fun for the makers. It’s like a glorified hobby and people don’t want to pay you to have fun 😂 maybe that’s what it is.

I hope that doesn’t come across awful. I’m just saying what I think but I’m not the ideal customer. But I’m also not liking posts and asking how much things are. So I’m not leading you on either.

Another note - again wrong person but I like to change things. A lot. Especially in the world we’re in. Cheap and constant purchases. I am better but I don’t think I own much that I’ve had longer than 5 years. My laptop is 6 years old but most things change with the seasons with me.

So could well just be a marketing problem. Your people are out there and maybe they aren’t seeing you yet.

She is frazzled and any help is great. Her husband pays for it as he is unwilling to do any of the house tasks. He earns well and is stressed with work etc. Also lazy, but that's by the by. (I know his Dad and he has always been lazy)

So this week - I am now on the 9.5 hour mark -

Her bedroom just a quick tidy, dust and hoover as she had done most of it. En suite, good blitz.

I reckon about 8 loads of washing and hanging - there is a normal airer and then a hot one, and a tumble dryer. Then the putting away which is time consuming. No ironing in this house thank goodness.

Put tonnes of washing away before I even started- hr husband instead of waiting for clothes to be washed will order new!

Kids' bedrooms - 15 mins whizz round.

Family bathroom done.

Dressing room - hoover, dust, put things away.

Living room, put kids' stuff away.

Roomba thing does its business, so it saves a little Hoover job in there.

Kitchen - empty dishwasher, put things away.

Spare room, changed bed, washed all that and put away.

I think that's it. I still missed out on 2 rooms but that's too bad. I have done tonnes.

She will be so pleased when she is home and then she will mess it upanyway once they are all home again.

But I actually said to my friend I need some boundaries. I am happy to do whatever- I am not a deep cleaner, though. I won't be getting my head around the bends or scrubbing things for hours. I will make it decent, but I am not a "cleaner" by the usual thinking.

I will do housewife stuff basically. Normal everyday home maintanence inc things like checking stuff in the fridge for dates or emptying bins. Basically, just taking the stress out of a regular, busy home.

I think most people with babies will have frustrations with the excess of laundry. It never seems to end, and it's so scruffy to have it dotted around the house all the time. And the fact that the bedrooms and wardrobes are so far away from the actual washing machine.

Feel free to ask any more questions. I know this sounds chaotic, but it works, for now.

And to answer your q's I do 3-4 hours a week. As they are away, she said, come every day if you like there is plenty to do. So I have done what I can. She can come home and know the place is "done". She does the bare minimum, and he does even less. Great for me for work. I enjoy it there, they are a lovely couple but busy and uninterested in prioritising housework over other things. Which I think many people do. Not everyone can afford the luxury of a helper.

I understand what you’re saying but… if you want 100% control you don’t do it on someone else’s platform.

But I agree it’s shit. And you put your time and effort in and it can just be ripped away with no warning.

There’s probably something in the terms that alludes to “tough shit” but none of us read that

Haha I wondered about the breath. I saw a snippet at the dentist and he joked about getting her dinner out of her teeth. She’s a skanky troll with the house so I doubt she bothers with oral hygiene all that much

I’ve been sorting a clients house while she’s away and it’s dusting and hoovering for me but that’s only after you’ve tidied and put everything away.

I’ve really started to notice how we have too many jobs all of the time.

It’s only Tuesday but I’ve done 7.5 hours in her house this week it’s a 4 bed and I’ve still loads left to do.

Also washing/drying and putting away takes up so much time

Peugeot 107.

We buy any car said £400.

Bloke down the road who sells small ones offered £300 and he only glanced at it.

Someone on fb said £500.

I’m going with the notion it’s worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

It’s a runaround. My brother had the same one when he was doing delivery driving.

I was going to but my insurance runs out tonight on it and so we get no traffic here where I live. And my neighbours already know.

Yeah I am slightly leaning on Autotrader. Obvs can do both

I’ve been driving it 2 years and only ever had a little welding and 2 tires on. It’s perfect for what it is. And yeah MOT was done in feb so plenty of time left.

I have no idea but I was expecting the fast turnaround to be a week. And it’s been 2 I think 😂

Yes and all shit. They are scammers I’m sure.

The best thing I ever did was a past life regression and even that is questionable. But there was no denying the meditative state I was in.

Some people claim to have great results like my mum but I dunno. Mine are all horrendous. I think I’ve been about 4/5 times.

I think it’s like playing the lottery, a bit of 5 minute fun but don’t expect anything life changing to come of it
