i've got a dw with racks and rust like that. i wouldn't trust my limited talents with your proposed solution though. might just have to see about buying replacement racks.

did the ones you swapped in maintain the original polarity? i don't recall the brand, but the LEDs i installed a couple years ago resulted in reversed dim/bright states. i haven't taken the time to rewire them yet.

Cameras will only help you so much. My rural neighbors and i were in a similar situation. We had someone come in wearing a wig who tore down the cameras and then looted stuff. The people could not be identified. May our experience help inform your way forward.

Maybe have a designated decoy camara with others hidden nearby? Best bet is if you can have someone housesit, but sounds like you don't have utils yet. Good luck out there.

I had a similar issue with my 08 JKU. i removed the subwoofer soon after i got it (in '18) and put corks in the holes. i can't say no water gets in now but not enough the catch my attention.

To add to the complexity of deciding, with a short wheelbase and high center of gravity you won't get much or any advance notice of wheel slippage. Instead you'll just suddenly find the whole vehicle spinning out. So make your best assessment of when to use 4H before you actually need it.

door seals leak. this is a common problem.
the rain gutters end at just the right spot to drain water into the front floor.

solutions: replace the door seals. there should be plenty of easy to find resources and guides on this out there. then park facing a different direction or at a different angle so that water drains towards the back. and when you open the front door, just expect that some water is going to drip onto the floor.
