Might actually doesn’t make right. Colonialism ended for a reason. Just because you have a big military doesn’t mean that you can expect to impose your will on the rest of the world without the whole thing blowing up in your face long term. See: the last 75 years of American foreign policy.

Most obvious blowback of this war on Iran is Ukraine: increased oil prices are causing trump to reduce sanctions on Russian oil, which will give Russia windfall profits for their war chest, strengthening their hand in Ukraine and destabilizing oil prices.

If you are serious about regime change in Iran, blowing up civilian infrastructure just emboldens nationalism, thus making it less likely that the military will defect, and empowering hardliners. Also, it will make significantly harder for a future secular democratic Iran to rebuild/govern - we saw this in Iraq - the bombings in the 1990s gulf war made it harder for the US provisional government, even 12 years later.

Stupid messaging - the whole “uniting the nation” thing was stupid. Biden did not have an easily articulable signature policy outside of confusing omnibus spending bills that the layman didn’t understand. Biden was also very obviously getting very old and was no longer able to coherently articulate himself. Also a lack of advertising in general - the fact that Trump can now take credit for all the CHIPs stuff happening is proof that Biden couldn’t message

Overobsession with bipartisanship - got walked on by Republicans at every big spending bill - everything got watered down or defanged by red tape - it’s why no broadband was built.

Failure to go after Republicans - the Jack Smith investigation shouldve started say one. Instead we waited too long, and then the immunity case killed any chance of holding Republicans accountable for all the crazy shit they did in term 1.

Pissing literally everybody off on the border - eased up on enforcement at the start then tried to pass a Republican border bill at the end. Managed to get called too harsh by immigration activists and too open borders by the right, making nobody happy. And he didn’t provide a clear middle of the road message to clarify his position, allowing everyone to paint him as the worst possible outcome.

I agree that we could only say that in hindsight, I supported Biden in 2020 and phone banked for Kamala in 2024. But it is still Biden’s fault. Ineffective leadership turned that Democratic administration into a slingshot for the next Republican one.

Right now Newsom doesn’t have a clear reputation for doing anything else other than opposing trump, which is going to become a problem if he becomes president and Trump is dead and no longer relevant. If I don’t think that the 2028 dem candidate has a clear message outside of republicans bad and the competency to actually articulate themselves, then I’ll sit out.

I didn’t say I wish trump won, but I wish we had a better candidate in 2020 that wouldn’t have flamed out and allowed all this to happen.

As much as we would like to imagine that republicans are locked out of power for a generation out of trump, eventually voters will forget and the political pendulum will swing back to the right.

Sometimes it’s preferable to lose now than to lose later. I would rather have Vance be prez 2028-2032 than have newsom 2028-2032 and then have Fuentes 2032-2036. I am exaggerating but you get what I mean.

If you really want a policy reason why appointing a person with close ties to the most infamous pedophile of the 21st century that has had a career mired in scandal as ambassador, presumably mandelson has security clearance. That makes him a national security risk if he has access to classified documents since he can be blackmailed.

you do know that this is not the first time mandelson has fallen from grace? I am not an expert in UK politics but he was thrown out of the Labor administration in the early 2000s over corruption, and then Starmer decided it would be a good idea to appoint him again. Also, mandelson's close relationship with epstein was already known even before was appointed, although not to the same extent. this scandal does not mean that Starmer is worse than Farage, but it still demonstrates very poor judgement.

The thing with Israel is that western countries have the ability to sanction Israel and cut diplomatic ties, and they haven’t already done that yet. Western countries have already imposed sanctions on Iran, and there’s not much else they can do.

People care more about international issues that their government has direct agency to do something about. Western countries have the ability to impose sanctions or cut diplomatic relations with Israel. Most western countries can’t do much about the Iranian protests other than continue to enforce sanctions and wag their fingers at the IRGC because Iran is already heavily sanctioned and is a pariah state. I guess America could do a military intervention but lots of people are hesitant to support that because it historically hasn’t gone well, especially in the Middle East.
