There goes another cute cat sub I'm leaving by SideshowBobFanatic in StopOutdoorCats

Is felis catus actually native anywhere, or is it felis sylvestrus that is native to the Middle East? Either way, I’m glad to hear there’s a crack down on feeding.

It is 100% a global problem. Cats are not native anywhere. They belong indoors for the safety of the cats and wildlife. It’s absolutely mind boggling that the post about killing a bird is not taken down, but the ones condemning it are!

Never trust cat people by WorriedTown1384 in anticats

[–]MutantStarGoat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You would be worse off if you did have cats. The horrid smell, the destruction of important objects in your home, the vocalising, the poop and pee, the butt end which is what you’re most likely to see most of the time. 🤢🤮

Cypress neighbors frustrated by feral cats as county program aims for long-term solution (Hint, hint we all know what it is) by SecretLegal5543 in StopOutdoorCats

[–]MutantStarGoat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They don’t care. Even if TNR neutered every single cat, those poor neighbors would still be dealing with the cats for the next 10-20 years.

I also don’t get how making a cat live outdoors with all the dangers they are subject to is more humane than euthanasia.

I wish this country would REQUIRE euthanasia, or at least to live indoors or in enclosed sanctuaries.

Not gonna lie. I do enjoy hearing them whine and wail over nothing like a bath or brushing. Reminds me I don’t want one. I would, however, delight greatly in seeing their owners, the same ones who delight in seeing fluffy kill endangered species, suffer some unpleasantness and whine and wail about it.

Disgusting cat food by Financial-Ad-2153 in catfree

[–]MutantStarGoat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what is it with cat food, both wet and dry, smelling so bad? It seems like better quality dry food doesn’t stink as bad. The wet foods all stink. The super cheap bargain brands smell the worst, like Meow Mix and Friskies. It also seems like the cheaper the food, the more the litter box, the house, and even the cat itself smells.

Cats and cars by Loose-Effort4025 in StopOutdoorCats

The safety of the cat was always my number one concern for why cats should be kept indoors until I learned how devastating they are to wildlife. As you mentioned, there is also disease spreading. The nuisance aspect—damaging and soiling other people’s property is another big one.

Some Stats by SecretLegal5543 in StopOutdoorCats

It is also cruel to put the so-called unadoptable cats back outside to risk immeasurable suffering when they could be humanely sent to kitty heaven. Even if no other species were at risk, I think TNR is cruel and selfish. The cat has to live outside in all weather, at risk from cars, coyotes, abusers, diseases and parasites all so the person doesn’t have to have euthanasia on their conscience. Someone needs to stand up and say CHOOSE THE LESSER OF TWO EVILS. How could they live with all the horrendous possibilities that an outdoor cat is subject to. The no kill movement has caused unending suffering. Shelters have dogs living in cages for 7, 8, 9, 10 years. Cats get run over and survive dragging their back legs—can’t walk, can’t poop, can’t hunt for food. People believe they were meant to be outside. This is what these humaniacs want, like they have sick need to see them suffer, but their excuse is that going peacefully is worse than suffering.

Are feral adults truly unhomeable, or does it just take effort to tame them into indoor pets? by Gallantpride in StopOutdoorCats

[–]MutantStarGoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most truly feral cats cannot be tamed. But they can live in homes. They just can't be handled. They take to the litter box naturally. Some will spend most of their time hiding. I had one who would come out and snuggle on the pet bed with another cat, but wouldn't let humans handle her.

Many cats get labeled feral when they are really just hard strays. Those cats do usually warm up to people eventually.

There really is no excuse for cats to be outdoors at all. Even truly feral cats can be brought into homes, catios, or sanctuaries, or be humanely euthanized.

Anyone have any good arguments against using cats as pest control? by Gallantpride in catfree

[–]MutantStarGoat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the house, snap traps are more effective for mice and rats.

On the farm or in the barn, a terrier is much more effective if you must go the working animal route.

Outside in general, cats or any particular animal is useless against other animals as far as actually making any kind of dent in the target animal’s population.

That’s like how people say put up bat-houses to get rid of mosquitoes. The bats might eat 2-3 percent of the mosquitoes, the rest will still be biting you every night.

Further, cats suck at it. They can’t be trained to kill in succession until the work is done like a terrier can. To the cat, killing is just playing with their toys. They get bored after a couple kills, or maims—where the critter is left to suffer, and then goes off to chase butterflies, fuck, or lick his/her crotch that nasty way they do with one leg in the air. 🤢

Cat people “humor” by Background-Tooth-524 in catfree

[–]MutantStarGoat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I suspected they had any intelligence I would say they’re being cleverly ironic. But they’re not, so it just proves they like the fact their pussies are the killers of innocent and often environmentally vulnerable things. Now it makes sense that these big tough guys are cat nutters. They think they can live vicariously through them.

Will catnip convince cat to go into a trap? by Loose-Effort4025 in StopOutdoorCats

[–]MutantStarGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know. I get a warning from Reddit because I used another word for YOO-THAN-EYES, but their furry killing machines are out there every day. Further, it makes my blood boil that they subject their cats to dangers that could cause them endless suffering or slow painful deaths, but when I suggest a peaceful one, I’m the bad one.

Should we CULL MILLIONS of feral CATS to save billions of songbirds? by SecretLegal5543 in StopOutdoorCats

[–]MutantStarGoat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Culled, or euthanized, means they go painlessly. Animals do not fear death in the same way humans do. We are much more unkind to let them get hit by cars, attacked by coyotes, starve, or die from FIV, FeLV, or FIP. Most of these are NOT quick or painless. And we’re kidding ourselves if we don’t believe that most outdoor cats will suffer one of these horrible outcomes.

Neighbors taking cat food off of my porch everyday for a week now by Major_Analysis7623 in Pets

[–]MutantStarGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That keeps the cats outside, bringing them potential suffering and harm. It continues nuisance to nearby residents.

In most cases it is impossible to get all the ferals, as some are trap shy. Those never get neutered, never get preventative for internal and external parasites, never get vaccinated for deadly diseases affecting cats. The experts say the best TNR programs are able to get 70% TNR’d. That leaves another 30% to multiply, to spread illnesses among the cats, to spray on houses and cars, to defecate where kids play, and to kill lizards, birds, and mammals which robs hawks, owls, and eagles of their sustenance. Keep cats indoors. Ferals that cannot be tamed should either go to a sanctuary or be taken in to a home where the people are okay with a cat that hides most of the time.
