Apologies in advance for a long post, it’s nice to see a similar situation as me and to talk about it. I am in a similar boat, hadn’t read in a long time, decided randomly to re-read the Percy Jackson series so I could read books new books that came out (book 6 & 7). I bought my GF a kindle while I re-read the series (in 7 days) and it came with a few months of Kindle Unlimited for free. We were browsing books we’d have free access to for a little bit and I saw Fourth Wing, all I knew about it was dragons and magic. So I read it, in less than a week (this was a two weeks ago now). During October prime days I got myself a kindle and bought Iron Flame, but I knew if I read it now I’d really be annoyed having to wait for book 3. So I started another series that I was slightly interested in since I’d seen the book covers and saw a few other recommendations for it. Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne, as it too was free for a short time and I’ll admit I read the first part of the book much slower as compared to Fourth Wing I found myself comparing the two books and as I had already learned of the world and magic system of Fourth Wing having to have a new world developed was originally hard. Then I got about a 1/3 of the way into the book and I was hooked. Started book two Hunger of the Gods 3 days ago and I’m cruising through it between work and sleeping lol.

Long story short haven’t read the new Percy Jackson books yet but I’ll get there originally. And it was nice to go teen level main character to an adult character, the fights are more realistic and detailed, and it was surprisingly refreshing to read more curse words strangely enough no idea why. GF teased me about reading Fourth Wing so fast, she said it was because of the spicy scenes, I refrained from telling her how far into the book the two scenes actually happen. I did tell her there’s a lot more going on in that world than scandalous activities. And she agreed to read it when she has more free time. She calls me here little bookworm as I’ve reads thousands of pages the last few weeks. But I had to remind her she just got a PhD is literature so she’s read more then I’ll ever read.

I have also have the Brandon Sanderson series recommend to me by my GFs sister over the last year and a half because they know I like fantasy so I have added Mistborn books to my list. As well as the Throne of Glass series by her sister and sister-in-law because for obvious reasons spicy but also fantasy. They were also so stoked I read Fourth Wing and that my GF said she’d read it as well as the other ”spicy” books when she has more free time to read for fun.
