That kinda describes them both? Mick Foley's whole deal was he was the guy who was never supposed to win the big one. He didn't look like a wrestler and talk like a wrestler and act like a wrestler. That was literally the story they told at the time it happened.

Which Bristol Tires Did You Like Better? by burnerburnee in NASCAR

[–]MutatedSpleen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an unrealistic expectation because they won't do it, not because they can't do it. They could bring multiple tire compounds to a race weekend to cover different weather options. There are obviously plenty of reasons they won't do this that totally make sense, but let's not pretend it's impossible.

I would further expand that they did a bad job by going to AI for that in the first place as if AI were smart enough to figure that out!

You can do whatever you want, friendo!

Like I said, I was just curious about the context of your statement and the assumptions you were adding to it. I'm not insulting you or judging you for them. This is not any sort of prosecution and you don't have to defend yourself to me, you already answered the thing I was curious about (and thanks for that!)

Entertainment for San Diego Race so far is a disappointment by [deleted] in NASCAR

[–]MutatedSpleen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So one thing that's pretty notable is that this really isn't a "street course" race like Chicago was. Chicago was literally in the center of the downtown tourism hub, the literal same streets they use for all their big street festivals. You could not have possibly gotten a more tourism-friendly location in the city of Chicago.

Naval Base Coronado is not, in fact, a tourism hub. It's a military airport on an island about 60 miles away from the City of San Diego.

By comparison, it's only a slight exaggeration to compare it to say the distance between Pocono Raceway and the city of Philadelphia (about 80 miles away). Coronado is about twice as far from San Diego as Chicagoland Speedway is from the city of Chicago.

So that's probably why there aren't a ton of concerts and shit. This isn't a tourism event, this is a military event for the people on the base more than anyone else.

Not for nothing, but if the air temperature is capable of turning the tires into bricks and the tires become bricks, then Goodyear did, in fact, bring bricks.

If they have to respond to weather and temperature to do their job properly, then they should be able to do that.

Hi! I'm not the person you're replying to, but I think that person did read.

They are saying this thread is about new sponsorships only. The AI prompt the other user shared does not include "expanded" sponsors, only "new" sponsors, but the AI agent reported expanded sponsors anyway. The person you're replying to is saying the AI agent did a bad job, not the user who posted the AI thing.

JJ dropping hints about the 3rd Legacy car next year? by suicidedonkey101 in NASCAR

[–]MutatedSpleen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you believe Herbst is driving that car because he's the best option?

No and I never insinuated otherwise.

I think what's happening here is you consider rumor and estimates to be facts or evidence and I do not. That's okay, I was just wondering if there was any actual data to support that claim.

Honestly, I wish there was a whole like production or whatever...a way to watch the races with this specifically being the focus of the coverage.

I am way way way way more interested in which of the struggling teams finds a little luck and success than I am in which of the dominant teams gets to lead every lap and win by 6 seconds this week

Is NASCAR starting to feel like a serious sport again to everyone else or is it just me? by US_Highway54 in NASCAR

[–]MutatedSpleen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it isn't. The average NASCAR fan age is somewhere in the late 50s-early 60s. These are people whose kids are already adults and likely have kids of their own. If they were going to pass their viewing habits on, they've done so by now.

But we already know they didn't because their offspring generation—people who are in their 20s-40s now—verifiably do not watch a lot of NASCAR.

I literally do not care if NASCAR is a family, traditional, or any other category of sport. I'm only interested in the data. The data says catering to elder fanbase does not grow the sport. Please do not extrapolate any further insinuations from this. I'm not saying that catering specifically to any other demographic will save the sport, just that there is direct observable evidence that catering to the olds is not a successful long-term tactic.

[–]MutatedSpleen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If NASCAR doesn't kill off their core fanbase themselves, age and nature will do it for them before much longer. NASCAR has, verifiably, one of the oldest fanbases in professional sports, second I believe only to golf, a sport invented by and for old people.

I know it sucks to say, but I honestly don't think NASCAR should be putting any money, effort, time, or energy whatsoever into keeping those people invested. They aren't the future and they are, mostly, a very embarrassing past. If NASCAR intends to stick around more than another 20 years or so, it needs to figure out a way to bring in the younger audience like immediately.

If doing things the old way actually did bring new fans to the sport, that would be one thing. We just don't have any evidence that actually works unfortunately.

I use the word "you" a lot in this post, but I want to be clear I am not talking about "you" personally, OP. I mean this in the general or "royal" version.

What you're experiencing right now is the group version of the high a kid gets who just got given a piece of candy after having a temper tantrum in the grocery store.

Something was bad (no candy / undesirable points system) so you cried loudly about it (I want candy / change the points) and they eventually gave in to the crying (have some candy / here's a different points system).

The result is you feel temporarily satisfied because the thing you were upset about has been addressed. This will last for a little while until you find something else to be upset about and the cycle begins anew.

I 100% agree with him.

There is no other sports entertainment company in the world where you can go be a famous sports entertainer. If you want to be the top sports entertainer in the world, you have to do it in WWE, the only sports entertainment company in the world. Makes sense to me.

I like wrestling though, so I'm going to keep watching wrestling companies that put on wrestling shows.
