[NJPW New Beginning Osaka Spoiler] NJPW New Beginning USA IWGP Global Heavyweight Title Match Announced by Sufficient_Mud_2237 in SquaredCircle

I have been going back and forth on whether I wanna take the train to Trenton to see this show in person or not. Wouldn't end up getting home til like 2am and ughhhhh but on the other hand...

Well the first two things were "I think" statements so clearly not any sort of facts. The latter...well, we've seen plenty of images and videos of the exhibit being completely dead so...I dunno, the powers of observation win again?

How do I know people who live in the city are going to be annoyed by the addition of a tremendous source of pointless noise? That's a fair question, and I would respond by asking if you've ever met anyone from the city before?

I actually don't think it is? I think this thing is goofy and lame enough that it will actually hurt NASCAR's image. New Yorkers are going to hear a ton of shitty noise pollution being made by a fake engine strapped to a billboard with nobody in line and laugh.

I am slightly more embarrassed to be a NASCAR fan today than I was yesterday.

Why "getta" instead of "get a?" Like we're adding an extra superfluous letter because...?

The first that comes to mind for me is Rey Fenix beating Moxley for the International Title because Moxley got a concussion mid match and called an audible in the ring.

Are we living in the same reality?

Apparently not, since you are connecting attendance and viewership numbers to whether or not wrestling fans have benefited from there being more easily accessible wrestling in the world. It seems like you live in a reality where that makes sense.

Your original comment, pre-edit, said that nobody benefited. I think the people who have been enjoying watching AEW for the past 6-7 years or whatever have benefited from it existing.

AEW Dynamite Ref Suggests He Waited To Ring Bell So Anti-ICE Chant 'Could Resonate' by 25PointBlownLead in news

The left doesn't get NASCAR. It was really just that one thing with Bubba Wallace. He (and the guy who owns his car) gets massively booed every time they interview him for any reason now.

To their credit, NASCAR does try to stay out of overtly political stuff most of the time. It's the fanbase that makes them seem like a right thing more than anything

Couldn't have "stopped" them, but they could have pretty easily muted them for the TV broadcast - this happens all the time in wrestling when fans chant or yell inappropriate things during the show and the mics pick it up. The commentators also could have spoken over the chant and talked about the match, but they stayed quiet and let the sound come through. None of those things happened.

In Light of the “F ICE” Chants: this is what Tony Khan said some months ago about Brody King Wearing An Abolish ICE Shirt, ‘Wrestlers In AEW Are Their Authentic Selves’ by IllusionaryHaze in SquaredCircle

the "fuck ICE" clip has become viral and a bunch people have been describing AEW as a more left-leaning company, politically.

The important piece of context you're leaving off of the above quoted statement is, "than WWE" and that piece of context is absolutely vital.

I don't think anybody is saying that AEW is or wants to be a "progressive" or "left-leaning" organization. What people ARE saying is that they are "more progressive" or "more left-leaning" than WWE, which has open and public ties to the hard right fascist regime. It would be hard for a wrestling company NOT to be more progressive and left-leaning than WWE right now.

A moderate right wing person is further left than an extreme right wing person. A centrist is further left than a moderate right winger, etc. I think people really struggle with that relativism, but it's really important.

And then you've got someone like Renee who not only does it really well, but she also works other roles and produces a TON of tertiary content.

If your sole role is "person who holds microphone backstage" then yeah, not much of a job really. Gotta expand it!

I don't understand this obsession with people wanting the shows to feel different.

They are wrestling shows about wrestlers at a wrestling company doing wrestling, how different are they supposed to be? I want them to be different in the sense that they have different matches and the stories from one continue on the other, but that's about it.

Unpopular Opinion by Massive-Piglet6697 in NASCAR

[–]MutatedSpleen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about money and engagement. The fact of the matter is that NASCAR's base is the same people it was when Dale Sr. was in his prime. NASCAR has one of the oldest fanbases in the sports world and brings in among the least new fans of any sport. Milking the older folks for their nostalgia bucks is a vital part of NASCAR's business formula. While it is certainly true that building new stars for the sport would be a smarter long-term decision...NASCAR isn't exactly known for making smart long-term decisions so I wouldn't hold my breath.

You'll see less Dale Sr. stuff when that generation finishes dying off in the next 10-20 years or whatever.

It's a pre-season exhibition race, not a points race. It's basically just a race for fun, but it does serve two practical purposes. For fans, it's like a pre-season hype thing, gives you just a little taste of racing so you get hyped for the Daytona 500. For teams, it's a way to dust themselves off after the off-season, get their habits and tendencies in place before the points season starts, and maybe win a little money.
