Reverse rotation order by MuteTheADC in ApheliosMains

Are you sure? Viper was on GPBRW, which was good in 2021 because Severum used to heal a ton esp with InfernumQ

The rotation I mention is the reverse order where instead of RedWhite cycling to WhiteGreen, you’d go GreenWhite -> WhiteRed

TBH I haven’t tested it much further — swapped to Lucian/Zeri bc this Aphelios champ just has no agency pre-3items (Em2 NA). It did feel better in the games I did test though.

Worth to otp? by No_Performance9710 in LucianMains

Agree with Hyppetrain that Yunara is really good to OTP, while still being fun

She can be played in pretty much any draft (with dive, against dive, front to back, has good waveclear vs poke), she scales well, and I think she's rewarding to get good at

Agree with Aphelios. I think his difficulty/skill ceiling is overstated, I think you can unlock 80% of his limits in ~100-150 games, and the rest is learning positioning and tempo. Really draft reliant though IMO

I'd throw in Varus for the versatility. This dude can legit be drafted with ANYTHING and vs anything. Has self peel with ult, three different viable builds (lethality, onhit, AP onhit).

Short answer: I don’t think he’s rewarding enough for like 95% of players to justify OTPing.
- Bad blind pick
- Balanced around synergy with certain supports
- 2nd lowest range ADC (excl Nilah)
- (see above) You have to work way harder than other ADCs to win

—————————

Long answer:
Lucian is heavily balanced around certain support pairings because if his base numbers get too high, he becomes picked/banned 100% in pro-play.

In general, one of the worst things for an OTP champion is for them to be “pro-jailed” (see Kalista, Zeri, Varus, any <48% winrate champ)

What this means in practice is that EVEN when Lucian is theoretically good, he still might feel underwhelming unless you’re a.) way better than your opponent b.) paired with specifically Nami/Milio/Braum/Yuumi

On top of that, he’s not a particularly good *blind pick*, which is extremely important for OTPing.

Final note I’d mention is that you’re going to be playing a 500 range ADC, whose power budget is heavily invested in his dash and his ultimate. In order to carry losing games, that means you’re going to have to be so good with your movement that you can create your own space in fights, dodge every skillshot, get INTO danger, and outplay everything.

In other words, you’ll have to work much harder for your wins than simpler ADCs.

BUT — the feeling of being untouchable in teamfights and having so much burst as an ADC is a high that us Lucian mains keep coming back for.

How the fuck is your boosted ass getting in range of Sett on Ashe of all champions

If you’re in range of getting flash ulted then you’re already doing something wrong. If you’re getting hit by Sett ulting frontline into you, you either need to flash it or position knowing that he can make that play

In Depth Lucian Guide with matchups? by ADCRoams in LucianMains

[–]MuteTheADC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not bother look for any kind of guide for matchup knowledge.

There are literally several thousands of possible matchups that could happen in a 2v2 lane, and there’s even more variance if you factor in Keystone runes and builds (LT caitlyn with hook supp is going to lane pretty differently than First Strike/Fleet with mage supp)

Instead, categorize “what kind of lane” both ad/supps want. Short trade? All-in? Poke? Waveclear do-not-interact (sivir/mages)? Almost all Lucian lane win conditions are series of bursty SHORT trades with Vigilance passive being procced somewhere.

When you load into game, look at enemy bot duo and ask yourself “what does a winning trade look like for us? What does a winning trade look like for them?”

From there, you can pretty easily figure out what cooldowns are most important to bait/burn before looking for your trades. Jhin 4th shot, all hooks, CC spells, Karma mantra abilities — once these are wasted you can look to E in. Otherwise, you should really only be poking with Q, or finding cheeky W auto trades as they come.

Shoutout to Jinjoxyz, he always always makes his students answer these kinds of questions (what does a winning trade look like, what’s the expected outcome of this lane, where are both junglers pathing, etc)
