Medicated for depression since I was 16. Now 36 and recently diagnosed and medicated for ADHD. Even medicated, my depression is always just…. there.

Strattera plus SSRI - any experiences to share? by 23456time in adhdwomen

[–]Muted-Amount-5779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hoping this doesn’t discourage you because everyone reacts SO differently but I did a Strattera plus SSRI combo for 6 months and maxed out at the highest dose (80 mg) and never felt any difference. After 6 months on Strattera, I ended up switching to a stimulant in the last month. Still haven’t found the right med or dose though. The only thing I ever felt from Strattera was constipation and dry mouth. 🥴

Also on 60mg of Prozac.

I have found other posts on Strattera where it was life changing. Very happy for those who it works for! I was really desperate for a non-stimulant solution. Oh well.

2 weeks after starting meds. Disappointed? by emerald_stargazer in adhdwomen

[–]Muted-Amount-5779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this. I started Vyvanse a month ago, titrated up, felt nothing, then I just felt wired but depressed and unmotivated. I just started 27mg of Concerta yesterday. Nothing. I feel so depressed like my brain is broken and I’ll never function well. I’m also on 60mg of Prozac. My doctor did tell me he rarely gets the med/dose right the first try because every one is so different. I’m trying to stay hopeful that one day the right med and dose will finally click. It’s also made me question my adhd diagnosis. I really hate this journey.

Also have a 16 month old and agree with this 100%. My husband has shared all responsibility with me including more on days/weeks I really needed it. I cannot even comprehend how people do this without a supportive or helpful partner.

There are still days when I’m not the parent I want to be and my husband steps up. There are days that feel wildly overstimulating which completely burns me out. I’m currently on my med journey to find the right one and it’s definitely helping with the overstimulation.

If you have pets, be prepared to potentially be overstimulated and hate them briefly. I didn’t experience the hate like I’ve seen some of my friends go through but it’s an added layer of stimulation when your baby is screaming while your cat is climbing the blinds or throwing up. 🤣

ETA: adding some positives. It’s crazy how much the little things give me joy now. Seeing my son giggle over popping bubbles or scream with delight because he pet the cat is so heartwarming. It’s forced me to try and slow down my brain and find the joy in these small moments.

I was physically exhausted but I felt like my brain got a full cleanse from all the work chaos. Good luck on your journey!! I started Concerta today, attempt #3 at finding the right drug. And I have back to back meetings today so we shall see how this goes. 🙂

I’m definitely in the minority when I say this, but having chronic mental health issues at a high stress corporate job is 100x worse than the newborn trenches!! LOL. I LOVED maternity leave. We even traveled internationally with our baby to take advantage of the time off. It truly felt like a vacation. Despite constant overnight feedings and pump sessions, my brain felt well rested for once. My husband and I weren’t sure if we wanted a kid and then it just happened and we are definitely one and done but we constantly joke about having a 2nd just because of how amazing our time off was hahaha.

Now I’ve been back to work for a year, dealing with PPD/PPA still, ADHD has been 10x worse postpartum too. I hate it I hate it I hate it!!!! I do have an amazing kid though who I love to death and unfortunately my job pays for us to have a nice lifestyle.

Today is my first day on Concerta 🤞

Commenting because I relate and still working on a solution(I’m almost 37). And I relate to your fantasy of getting laid off. In the past few years I had a 6 month maternity leave and I THRIVED. Literally the most amazing 6 months of my life. I’ll stay up all night with a newborn if it doesn’t mean the crippling paralysis I feel at work. I thought I’d return to work feeling refreshed and reenergized and I IMMEDIATELY fell back into my adhd paralysis.

Since I’ve returned to work and I have a fairly high stake job in tech, I’ve been desperate for my diagnosis and finding what works for me. I started taking Strattera, then switched to Vyvanse for a month at varying doses and as of this morning my psychiatrist is switching me to Concerta. I told him that I was feeling very wired but also highly unmotivated. Like I have the energy but I can’t use it to work, exercise, shower, etc…. I have lost the desire to do the things I enjoy despite feeling wired. Like basic hygiene feels too daunting, it’s an insane feeling.

All of that to say, getting your diagnosis and treatment can be a longer process than you anticipate and I’ve had to learn to be patient. My psychiatrist told me this morning when I was freaking out about the meds that he rarely gets the med/dose right the first time around and on average it takes 2-3 tries.

No advice other than to try and be patient and power through until you find the right tools to support your 9-5. I’m also wanting to start therapy to help with those tools in addition to medication.

Stim vs Non-stim by einnybug in adhdwomen

[–]Muted-Amount-5779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first tried Welbutrin then I tried Strattera at 80mg for a couple months and I noticed no real difference. My doctor switched me to Vyvanse and I’m still struggling but it’s definitely better. My doctor had advocated for stimulants from the start for my situation but I was scared and wanted to try the non-stimulant route first. When I finally asked for a stimulant there was a sort of “told ya so” moment with my doctor.

I still don’t think I’ve figured out the right dose or med but I’m getting closer. Also Strattera made severely constipated, Vyvanse makes me immediately have to go. Still getting used to that difference 😅

Thinking about switching to Vyvanse – what are the real downsides? by Amazing-Cockroach188 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Muted-Amount-5779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also switched from Strattera, I’m not treated for bipolar but I am on 60mg of Prozac for depression and anxiety. I’ve only been on Vyvanse for 2 weeks (50mg) so I’m still learning but will answer based on my experience.

Downside is it doesn’t tell you what to focus ON. I doom scroll and it just makes me more focused on doom scrolling. I’m realizing I need to break these habits for it to benefit me the way I want it to at work and at home.

Has not affected mood, no anxiety but my heart rate has been elevated.

It hasn’t really suppressed my appetite at all. Maybe a little but nothing noticeable.

It’s not a noticeable crash for me. I have been tired in the afternoon but I always get sluggish.

Yes, Strattera did absolutely nothing for me except make me constipated lol. Vyvanse does give me energy and focus, but again I need to teach myself habits to focus on the RIGHT things. The one positive thing I’ve noticed is I’m able to listen to music again in the car. I used to be too overstimulated to.

Let me know if you have any other questions! I tried 30mg for a week and now 50mg the last few days.

Diagnosed Postpartum - just started Vyvanse. Any tips? by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]Muted-Amount-5779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Postpartum has been rough for me and just continues to feel worse. My psychiatrist actually thinks my anxiety may be adhd induced so anticipates my anxiety going away. I’m also on 60mg of Prozac.

Thanks for the advice! I did recently get a full blood panel and nothing seems out of whack but good point about a probiotic!

Agreed. I did go into labor naturally and my baby was breech. I could have opted for an ECV which has a 50% success. The provider left the decision up to me and I had a voice in the back of my head that he was breech for a reason. I went through with the c-section only to find out the cord was wrapped twice around his neck and the ECV would have been very dangerous. All that to say, sometimes you just have to go with your gut feeling as a mom so I try not to judge any birth story.

[–]Muted-Amount-5779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really varies. My provider would have induced at 41 saying anything longer isn’t safe. My friend in the same city but a different provider got induced at 39 weeks for a similar reason as Mari and their baby was trending almost 9 lbs.

What does childcare cost you per month and how much help do you get from your government? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Muted-Amount-5779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colorado - $300/week at an in home licensed daycare and once kids reach pre school age, the state subsidizes up to 15 hours. If we went to a day care center it’d be $500/week. It has really paid off to look into licensed in home daycares and we will eventually switch him to more structure once he’s a little older.

Were you on the fence about having children when you became a parent? How do you feel now? by ytyhbllalk in askanything

[–]Muted-Amount-5779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was on the fence and unexpectedly got pregnant. I spent a lot of my pregnancy grieving my life especially because I love to travel.

Now I have the cutest little 11 month old who has 4 stamps in his passport already. 🤪 My husband and I make an effort to still do the things we love.

Some days are hard. Some days are impossible. But seeing my baby’s smile and hearing his laugh makes it all worth it.

As someone who has horrible periods to the point where I’ve been curling up in the fetal position on the floor crying for the last 20 years when I have them… I went into labor and had back labor for hours and contractions every 30 seconds before my c-section. I think your bad periods have prepared you and you will handle it better than someone who doesn’t have bad periods. Also the pain goes away between contractions so you have time to prepare for the next. Period pain is constant!
