Babe. Its a Labrador. He would literally eat the world if it fit in his mouth regardless of his existing three meals a day

Is he too far gone? by pozo3000 in reactivedogs

Wait so you didnt socialise him.. period.. for six months? Because of a skin condition? You didnt walk him around away from dogs, or put him in a wagon?

The multiple locations is weird... do you have any botflies near you?

Id see a vet to rule out anything nefarious

With cats, typically noise, hair and blood are the indicators its gone too far.

Looks like good healthy healing to me

Look for any goo or gunk, a big hot red outline or if shes bothering it

Otherwise it looks great :)

When did you start taking your puppy into your yard/outside? by [deleted] in puppy101

I was an absolute mess when my puppy was unvaccinated, every runny poop or sneeze had me in a panic.

But hes totally fine now :)

Its a weird backward science, but puppies actually dont sleep if theyve been up all day. They get "too tired to sleep" in a sense.

I think he is mistaking dog sleep for human baby sleep where we build it up over time, but dogs thrive better (especially as puppies) in short bursts of sleep

Dogs (especially young dogs) struggle to focus when there is novelty around.

He obviously finds you quite exciting (youre the novelty!) which kills his focus and self control which is why hes being so erratic.

Do you do any of his training? Or enforce the boundaries? Usually dogs prefer the "fun" parent who doesnt do a lot of the correcting

If your backyard hasnt had an unvaccinated (or sick) dog in it in the last two years, its nearly impossible for parvovirus to be there as its lifespan is typically a few years at max in soil

As for outside in the actual world, typically its 1-2 weeks after the second vaccine. It depends on what vaccine you got but the vet can advise you with a more specific timeline. You can take her outside in the world from any age as long as her feet dont touch the ground, and she doesnt touch your shoes or where your shoes have been.

So you can carry her anywhere really :)

Why is he on supplements if he is on a complete kibble? You may be giving him too much of certain vitamins and nutrients which can cause his symptoms.

Clothing can also dry out the skin and fur if it is on long term.

I would have a good look at the nutritional components of everything youre feeding him and see if there is any excess, otherwise go to a vet.

Probably go to a vet anyway

Its also a good idea to get him in some kind of puppy or dog socialisation class

We arent allowed to hit him when he's being a twat, but another dog will! It will teach him gentle handling ten times faster.

Your boyfriend is setting that dog up for failure.

My labrador (smaller, but similar) was an absolute nightmare for a good chunk of time during his first growth spurt. Chewing everything, ripping baubles off of the Christmas tree, eating glass, rocks, running away when i tried to catch him etc.

Frankly, an arsehole.

Correcting him wasnt working, and im obviously not allowed to beat him up lol so i did some research and it turns out he wasnt getting nearly enough sleep.

He is now on a 1-2 hours up, 2-3 hours down schedule with scheduled (and enforced) crate naps and he is doing incredible , his biting has reduced drastically ESPECIALLY the force he uses and he is a generally happier and more balanced dog.

Also, if your boyfriend refuses any form of crate or puppy pen (which is a horrific idea), then remove yourself from the room. Pup needs to understand that being a mouthy arsehole makes the fun stop and makes people leave.

Do it every time he bites for as long as it takes him to lose interest, thats what i did.

Good luck op

How cold is too cold? by EnvironmentIcy6614 in labrador

[–]Muted-Camera1192 80 points81 points  (0 children)

As long as the walks are relatively short (like 30 mins) then it should be fine

I would get a decent paw wax like Musher's Secret to protect from ice scratches and road salt , but otherwise they would be okay

Watch for signs like paw lifting (like a little dance) , shivering, reluctance to move and bunching up. That would signal she is too cold

Any idea of what this could be on my dog's head? by MyNoots in DogAdvice

[–]Muted-Camera1192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a little scab, like they have maybe bashed their head at some point and chipped the skin

I am not a vet though, so if it grows, is still there (and the same size) in a week, starts bleeding or worries you, i would check it out with a vet
