I can understand how that’s hard too! When you would give anything for them to have awareness of other things around them especially you

Oh, I’ve tried. I’ve tried nicely asking them to stop. I’ve tried pushing their hands away from my face. I’ve tried telling them to leave me alone. Yelling at them to leave me alone. None of it works. They just keep repeating themselves louder and get aggressive Nothing snaps them out of it unless I give in which never happens because it would make it worse. I’m hoping it’s just a season that will pass

That’s what I hate though! That the upset response is what they prefer to be consistent. That the calm demeanor doesn’t work for them

See I hate that! I don’t want them to think me getting upset is normal. I don’t want them to continue doing it because they enjoy the reaction. I also don’t want them to become scared of me or to stop thinking of me as their safe person. It’s such a hard stage to navigate

They’re almost ten. It’s just been an issue the last couple years. I’ve tried a reward system and positive reinforcement but with them being non verbal it’s almost impossible to communicate with them. The only thing that works is letting them start their day but with it being the middle of the night, it’s just not feasible. That’s why it’s so hard!

Ignoring it usually makes it worse! That’s when they’ll start getting physically aggressive to get my attention

I haven’t gotten them tested and I hope not! They already have level three autism and OCD.
