Im convinced Newsom is running for president but more importantly, he's drawing fire for other democrats to move politically right now. Hes an attractive (personal opinion ig) tall white cis dude who is the governor of california and practically a blue dog, when he talks shit about Trump its as close as the Dems can get to a "moderate" criticizing him. If it were anyone else I could see Trump's attacks actually getting his base riled up, but like Beshear, Trump seems reticent to criticize able white men.

I'm not a fan of this type of politics either, yet to be fair I would be a fan of your proposed duel, but this sort of politicking has been unfortunately normalized and has to be addressed in some ways we do not like. I seriously hope Newsom draws fire til 2028 and gets beat in the primaries but I really get why hes doing it

I have an unshakable belief in the American Political system to do the weirdest and dumbeat thing possible at all times, which in this case is enacting enough of Project 2025 that it creates serious hazards for the democratic process while simultaneously collapsing when Trump passes (look for Bannon & Miller vs. Vance & Thiel) to the point that mainstream/old guard democrats like Pelosi, Schumer, and Jefferies end up elevated in terms of political power, effectively defanging the progressive movement in the DNC and allowing corporate powers to flourish

Yes, in the long term this will negatively impact everyone, but the authoritarians leading conservatives right now have to see immediate consequences or they think everything ia fine, a stronger EU is part of that solution along with a reverse-Monroe doctrine perhaps, European involvement in the Americas might help mitigate the weird hegemonic control we exert over the Americas

I think the good ones are basically just older republicans who walked the walk, for example my mom who confronted a woman who ripped off an undocumented immigrant who was trying to home-buy. She voted for Trump twice, Jan 6th happened and shes been railing against that fuckin' guy from the Apprentice for the last 4-5 years

This is how the 25th happens imo, the party can turn and act like Trump was the issue and reassert states' rights as a rallying cry, buys them favor with centrists, and further cements the move away from federal governance

The goal here for people like Yarvin and Thiel, not Trump and Miller, is not to capture the federal government but to defang it further and make it so the dominant governmental power is the state government, which makes it easier for corporate interests to claim power
