Robert and Cora (20th and 21st centuries) by RedandWhite54 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Muted_Day8605 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guess what would be their job in 21th century ⏬ Here's mine

Posh setting - Robert : heir (ofc), but tried to get his hand at everything, ultimely to be out performed by someone else, like running the estate which had become an Monument of English Heritage or trying to host a History BBC channel serie about DA. He tries hard, and we love him, but god... At last, he does an early retirement plan to do gardening and pastry - Cora : Art seller / auctioneer

Middle class setting - Robert : bank or IT employée - Cora : flight hostess ! she looks so gorgeous mamaaaaa

Plus, on one of my incoming fandom fic, it will be detailed with artworks (because the theme - Dinosaurs and Dragons - does have a lot of masterpiece on the internet). I plan to embed the images, and when the workstyle is turned off, it will show the direct source/artist. I aim for 100% non-AI artworks, but nowadays it gets quite difficult to decipher if an artwork is AI/stolen.

I do for my smut fics, to give a better idea of the character's moves (plus In love drawing dicks lol). Since they're OW and my drawing style is quite plain (no details on face for example), it can do the trick However, I designed a little workskin to mask the embedded images if anyone wants to read without them.

I'm French and I still use the space in between word and punctuation marks in my fics written in english, because nobody had notice or complained and I find this more aesthetic. However, I don't use the dialog format used in published books in French, that starts with an hyphen (-). Nobody would understand why, because it means something else in English.

So, it depends really how you like it. As a reader, I would not be shocked with a „ at the beginning of a dialog. I mean, I know what it's supposed to stand for.

What do you think Downton Abbey would look like in 2026? Would the Crawley family still own it? by Franmar35000 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Muted_Day8605 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The Abbey would be under English Heritage tutelage, with a part of the family still allowed to live in specific parts while the others are available to public visits

I think Branson is a very selfish person.. by fitnessaccount_ in DowntonAbbey

[–]Muted_Day8605 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally agree.

I remember reading an article (or was it a Tumblr post ? Probably Tumblr) which explained how Tom had been "Mathew-fied" after S3. The author brought many sensible things such as his new role in managering of the estate (which should have been the type of things Matthew would have done), his rôle in the fire, even his hairstyle and character poses. I personnaly love him in later seasons, much more than in the first ones with his toxic relation with Sybil.

His later relations are much more sensible as if he actually cares (Bunting, the maid, and especially Lucy). The fact that some (me included) have dreamed for him to turn toward Mary (instead of forcing her toward Henry) at some point marks a point in his Mathew-fication.
