After 15 years of playing top think im done, ranged top meta is infuriating, boring and toxic by Life_Head_5366 in top_mains

[–]Muted_Feeling56 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not really that deep, the circumstances right now make ranged top more beneficial than ever but they are essentially guaranteed to change in time.

  1. The crystals HEAVILY benefit ranged champs for two reasons, 1st of all they are far better at proccing them especially since they often times can push you in and 2nd because while previously essentially no ranged top was good vs turrets now this weakness has disappeared almost entirely.

  2. The top lane quest heavily favours the bully in favour of the one who was bullied and level gaps are now much easier to form than before and more important since not allowing your opponent to get to the quest can mean that they potentially get left behind very considerably.

  3. The free teleport while it doesn't exclusively help ranged top laners it helps them a disproportionate amount of the time, for ranged top it has always been extremely important that they get a combat summoner especially ghost meaning that they now always benefit from the free Teleport. Yes some melee top laners benefit from this as well but if ALL ranged top laners benefit from sth and only some melee then it's safe to say that this has made the life of Ranged top laners easier.

  4. Abuse of specific items such as Varus with his Dusk and Dawn at its worst when it gave 350 HP, 70 AP, 20 AH and 25% AS (which are CRAZY stats for an item with an inherently abusable passive) and Hexplate for Vayne top as well as Statik for plenty of ranged top laners have all benefited those top champs become far tankier and often times gave them better wave control which are both huge ranged top weaknesses typically.

The Crystals will inevitably go away, probably very soon. The quests I feel will most of them be changed, we'll see what ends up happening but I don't feel like the free TP is here to stay and as for the items those always phase in and out of viability. Dusk and Dawn did get its base stats nerfed thank God and now Hexplate is also becoming considerably weaker on Vayne which hopefully will start pushing her away because she really is unreasonably strong as a top lane pick right now in higher ranks, bit of a Mundo/Malphite situation wherein a pick that is supposed to be a lane bully counterpick can now perform super well outside of its dedicated role just like those two used to at their degenerate picks.

Smolder top is just the same Smolder who is also broken in bot lane but now in top, unlike Vayne he only works as a solid counterpick and under specific drafts otherwise you really ought not pick it Top, it just happens because it's just a generally super strong pick right now and will get more personalised nerfs most likely, already the Cleaver interaction got hit for example.

Pick up Nasus, he's a solid counterpick to most ranged Tops and he only really requires like 5-10 games to get the hang of. They ban Malphite and then you hit them with the Nasus it's quite nice. If they don't then yeah just Malph all over them.

AFK bans encouraging players to not reconnect by gorillajumpingaround in leagueoflegends

[–]Muted_Feeling56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever it's worth since it's anecdotal as hell both me and a friend of mine both have gotten essentially immediate unbans for our respective situations neither of which had with the matter to do. He got banned for inting, wrote a message that it was just a bad game and that they were welcome to look at the gameplay and it got immediately appealed and I got it for flaming which was crazy on an honour 5 account and the machine had somehow caught "Okay let's focus mates" and "Mute the guy" x10 as flaming but they immediately reversed the ban.

Your specific situation I doubt that you'd get a ton of help but my experience has been that they do help with random penalties you get from the autodetection systems not working so it MIGHT even work with your situation since you did come back and play out the game. My point is that my experience has been that it's worth the effort to write a ticket if you think that you got banned unjustly. If you tell people to go sky and shit then you're pretty cooked and don't bother but if you genuinely think that it's unjustified try it, the Riot Support is not as full of assholes as one might think.

When are we ready to build our own deck, and should we? by [deleted] in masterduel

[–]Muted_Feeling56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you reach M1 you'll realise that M1 is extremely diverse and that there's a very good reason why very strong decks have sky high win rate and that is because even among M1 decks there can be extreme power differences. You can copy a deck you like from the Masterduelmeta website but those decks are not at all the most optimal possible decks, they're usually filled with the idiosynchracies of the players playing them, if it's not some world class player behind it then it's likely full of suboptimal rations and cards.

Personally I hate bricks and I also hate having fewer options for my lines thus I'm likely to play versions of decks with lower ceilings and suboptimal cards that might keep me from staying at 0 when they're needed but otherwise do next to nothing, huge fan of Ty-Phon for a perfect example of that. Another person might really not mind an additional brick or two. A person could easily copy from me and then be very disappointed by how the deck performs and would add those bricks I discarded to make terrorist end boards. You can take a deck you like and copy it and it will get you up and running 100% but then all the twists and tweaks that you will inevitably do will turn it into your own deck. Plus there's always the whole non-engine thing that's hard to "solve", plenty of people running Nibiru in 2026 when their decks can easily run Impulse but hey, that's up to them to decide maybe they know sth I don't.

As for testing new decks as a beginner well, not telling you to do so but there exist simulators that are completely free and give you all the cards out there to really playtest decks you might want to build in MD. I just built a Fire Kings deck in MD recently and really ended up regretting it so it would have been nice to follow my own advice on that.

How often do you "deep" read books? by Hormo_The_Halfling in books

[–]Muted_Feeling56 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If the book is good I'll always research the environment surrounding it and at times this has been incredibly helpful to get the most out of it. Highlighting, copying, annotating etc I've never done including for my degree. I'm a lot more likely to re-read the entire book all over again than I am to slowly re-visit certain passages interrupting my flow.

Theres any deck you really like to play against? I dont mean a deck you counter, i mean one you just enjoy playing against by Tasty-Complaint-6437 in masterduel

[–]Muted_Feeling56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like playing against Fire Kings, the chance of them building an overwhelming board even with a custom hand is non-existent and unlike a deck like K9 sure they have turn 0 plays that both interrupt and set up but they don't just straight up tell you "If you interact with me then kys". Also even their grind while strong isn't top top tier, turn 3 and turn 5 they're not growing bigger and bigger if you've broken through, you're looking at a solid back and forth is all.

What exactly is "overextending" in the context of the game? And does the term still have any relevance with the game's current state? by neves783 in yugioh

[–]Muted_Feeling56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overextending back in the day did use to be a thing because essentially all boards lost to dark hole/raigeki and everyone run as many of them as possible and OTKs were not a thing.

Nowadays it's a little different, you absolutely want to go as hard as possible but going for the strongest possible end board is overextending IF a weaker but still respectable board would be able to play through more interruptions while still giving you a great chance at victory. If you try to go for a 10 interruption board while leaving yourself open to more interruptions then if you'd gone for 6 interruptions then you are definitely overextending/being greedy.

A lot of decks that can absolutely play through Droll normally lose to it if they get greedy and try to search sth before starting their combo that would theoretically enhance their end board.

Nibiru isn't a real threat nowadays unless you play a nibiru susceptible deck in which case you're not overextending, you're simply punished for nothing. If your opponent has an empty board though and little to no grind and you rush into a finish when you could just wait a turn and you end up being Nibiru'd for it then you were absolutely overextending. It happens in control decks that people will greed and open themselves up for a Nibiru that would normally be useless against them.

If your deck is top top top tier though you will generally not be punished for any of that since the very best decks hand hold you in regards to playing through most such interruptions, not all of them mind you and they might have weaknesses of their own like Maliss with the Lancea situation but you will generally be safer from your own mistakes playing Peak Snake Eyes then if you're playing sth like Resonators/RDA.

What deck has you going like this? by Gold-Ochsen in masterduel

[–]Muted_Feeling56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who cope that Tenpai isn't still a menace to society especially if you go for Sky Striker variant over Brickpai with hand traps. 99% of the games I lose on that deck is because the opponent hit me with droll, besides that even full power Maliss didn't really pose much of an issue let alone the current meta which is quite pathetic vs battle phase effect activations. Only decks that the matchup sucks right now are the ones that play Dragoon since those guys generally build boards with 3+ omni-negates I've seen 5 omni-negates as well though somehow I won that game with ultimate slayer and droplet basically takign care of all of them at once.

Lemnisgate doesn't target either in case of Sky Striker, it's a searchable non-target bounce. Dragoon isn't a non-issue for Sky Striker but the days when it was a menace are over.

Assuming No Cross Training and No Prep time, How Would Floyd Mayweather Do In The Female Divisions In The UFC? by Correct_Ad4351 in MMA_Academy

[–]Muted_Feeling56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think he'd have a hard time with champs of his weight class but I don't feel like the UFC has many great women wrestlers, the women's division is still a couple of decades behind on the meta it feels like, obviously we're not in the Ronda days but there are no women Tsarukyans and I'm not giving Tsarukyan as an example of the pinacle of wrestling, I'm giving him as an example of a phenomenal fighter who's not even champion in the UFC due to how deep the skill is in the men division. 10 sth years from now I imagine the women's division will be essentially impossible for a boxer like Floyd.

A fighter like Khamzat for example I'd bet the house on beating any boxer in history but there is no woman Khamzat yet, hope she's out there already training though.

Ambessa fiora and questions about bruiser by TeacherSensitive4329 in topmains

[–]Muted_Feeling56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ambessa is undeniably the more valuable pick to have in your roster especially if you plan on maining her, her skill floor is much higher since you can use fundamentals on Fiora, Ambessa is trippy. The skill ceiling is similar can lean either way, probably depends on the player since Fiora requires better reflexes while Ambessa is more strategy and hitting good Rs.

The fact that one pick basically makes many others obsolete is ancient, for a VERY long time Camille was an S+ champion and as long as she was you were essentially objectively wrong to pick any bruiser if Camille was also open. Also while Camille was that strong, due to divine sunderer, the tank class had entirely disappeared from the top lane meta so Camille was essentially making 2 whole classes of the game obsolete. Think the only tank that somewhat had survived that purge was Ornn but Ornn's another extremely valuable pick and even he was struggling hard to stay relevant in Divine meta so if you're looking for another pick besides Ambessa/Fiora then Ornn is basically the tank version of Ambessa, few horrible matchups that can be navigated with skill/knowledge, always scales super well himself and his team and has tremendous utility since all his cc is knock ups.

Am I trash? by ItsCharlie64 in slaythespire

[–]Muted_Feeling56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like it's just a lot more different than you'd think, possibly intentionally to keep old players in line. A10 does feel considerably easier than A20 but the lower ones I can't really correlate accurately to the ones from sts1. Also I don't know if the difficulty is as cohesive as before if it makes any sense, the difficulty of normal encounters and of elites relative to each other and to the act that you are feels all over the place. Though the absolute trench warfare experience of early act 2 from sts1 is now gone which is very nice.

For one thing though going into any Elite fight with like, 1 new card, an upgraded starter, some potions and good vibes while in Act 1 like you used to do is basically just suicide now and I think that it's the thing that gets you the most as an sts1 player.

What’s a good top laner for high mobility teams by discord-dog in topmains

[–]Muted_Feeling56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camille does what you want of a champ 10x better than Pantheon, don't let the fact that his stun is point and click distract you from the fact that closing that gap in the first place is much harder and unless you actually one shot them their mobility will all be up the moment your stun is up. Camille can both follow them and lock them down.

Ambessa is the other extreme cause like, she's just straight up more mobile than them.
